So far so good. This slicer seems to work as well as the Hobart I've used in the past. It is manual, but if you are slicing most meats, especially delicate meats like roast beef, you need to be at the slicer anyway. It simply removes that temptation to set it on auto. I have a couple complaints, it could be easier to clean, but none the less, the slider comes off and the blade cover does too, so the only difficult place to clean is right behind the blade. We'll see how long it lasts. I'm sure it won't be as long as a hobart, but for this price point, it can't really be beat.

decent unit for small operations or mobile food vendors. Bought this 2 years ago and still works good for my needs with no real issues. Some areas are hard to clean but overall straight-forward product.
James F. from Spudz LLC Posted on 08/15/2017
This slicer is great for our small food truck and other low volume operations. The blade easily slices meats however is not powerful enough for cheeses. I would have given it five stars but it is more difficult to clean than higher end models and it could be nicer it was not angled so high for the slice.
Jonathan L. Posted on 08/04/2017
I use this great machine to slice my beef. It has thickness setting that allows you to choose the right size for your meat. I use the spray to wash the machine so its relatively easy to clean
Shishun C. from Organic Fusion Teahouse Posted on 07/30/2017
This slicer works great, and is the perfect size for a smaller operation. The blades come apart to make cleaning easier, but there are some nooks and crannies that can be a little difficult to clean.
Corey C. from The French Press Coffee Co. Posted on 06/22/2017
I bought this slicer to make my life easier... unfortunately, it has done the opposite. It is very difficult to clean - even though I spent the extra money to get the cleaning kit. When slicing it spits product out the sides and the top that get caught up in the blade... truly a mess and truly messy. DO NOT BUY.
Brian L. from Mamma Rocks, LLC Posted on 06/14/2017
Lowest rating we have given a product. We researched slicers before purchasing this one. It was the same size blade, with a bigger motor than our last one. We use it for two fully cooked sliced meats and potatoes for chips. That's it. Not even 2 hours a day total. First of all, the tray was smaller than our old slicer with the same blade size, so we had problems slicing our brisket. We made it work, but it was a thorn in our side to start. Fast forward 3 months, the blade starts slipping so we have our equipment company come look at it. The motor is shot. Really sucks, I haven't even started the claim process yet, we had to have a slicer that day so I found one local and bought it, but even with the great price we got and the average use that all the onsite guides told us that a medium duty product would work it's just dissappointing to deal with the hassle. Even if I do a warranty claim, the biggest hassle was the small loading tray, and I already have a replacement. I guess it can be a back up.
Austin N. from Austin's Firegrill and Oyster Bar Posted on 06/06/2017
We bought this as a second slicer to use exclusively on vegan products. It is very small, and I would worry if we needed to use it a ton, but it is perfect for our needs. It is not hard to clean, and it doesn't take up too much counter space.
Leila W. from Durham Co-op Market Posted on 05/02/2017
Very nice, small and compact slicer. We will be using this to slice charcuterie, and I feel that it will hold up well in our small restaurant. The only negative comment is that cleaning it can be a bit difficult as there is a protective guard around the blade that catches debris easily.
Sara L. from The Amsterdam Posted on 04/17/2017
Perfect size for medium volume lunch. We serve cafe lunch and use 3 meats. Easy storage also since its small and light weight. Highly recommend for low-medium volume cafe that serves sliced meat.
Dave D. from Rocky River Coffee Co. Posted on 01/09/2017
Amazing slicer I was hesitant about getting this because I wanted to use it to cut cheese and meats. I cut 6 ponds of provolone cheese and 5 pounds of mozzarella and then 3 pounds of sharp cheddar all about 1/8" thick and the slicer never bogged down or got boged down. I LOVE this slicer and cut paper thin slices of roast beef just freeze the ram meat for about 15 to 20 minutes and slice away works amazing. I highly recommend this slicer to any one.
Steven D. from Pasta Impressions Posted on 01/06/2017
First let me say the customer service is 5 star. They are as close to a computer generated customer service response as you can get. I received two of these units and both where damaged and both returned. Extremely poor packaging and rough handling cased the problems. Not going to give it another try.
Thomas D. Posted on 12/12/2016
Awesome machine. Use to cut strips for beef jerky we make. Awesome generic machine is made great for the price you pay. Would def recommend
Brian B. Posted on 11/22/2016
We decided to try this slicer for 2 reasons, its compact design and its price. The compact design is absolutely necessary in our small kitchen, where work space is at a minimum. So far it had done a great job for us. It slices the meat well, and it is pretty easy to clean. The smaller cutting surface requires a few more motions when using but the saved space is well worth it. So far it powered thru anything we send at it. When we bought this initially we worried because slicing cheese is not recommended. We found it can slice cheese, just don't force it thru, and take a little more time to let it cut and it works fine. I would recommend this for any kitchen that is highly limited in space.
Andrew K. Posted on 10/16/2016
this machine is pretty good but i didn't realized that it doesn't cut frozen meat. no problem, i just let it thaw out and cut it afterward.
Alan L. from 2 Posted on 10/12/2016
The slicer guard wedges the meat on the backside of blade, if removed it will throw the meat out the backside. It has a 1" inch block which prevents slicing all the product. Creates allot of waste.
Raymond B. from Raymondo's Pizza & Summertime Treats Posted on 10/10/2016
I'm having a bit of trouble with this meat slicer. I have another one, a different brand, and this one seems to "splash up" when slicing certain things so we rest a towel on top of it. Otherwise, it works really well and for the price, it can't be beat!
Catherine H. Posted on 09/27/2016
This Avantco Meat slicer is perfect for our kitchen. We slice ham and swiss cheese and it works great. We can adjust the thickness and it is a quiet running machine. We highly recommend!
Jacqueline A. from Havana Nights Café & Bakery Inc. Posted on 07/19/2016
Great low priced meat slicer. The price is right, but my only concern is difficulty cleaning the equipment components. Other meat slicers are designed to be easily cleaned and this one is a chore.
Dru D. Posted on 07/11/2016
good slicer , it does the job, little hard to clean it but I it does the work, easy to move it around and a good price
Osvaldo G. from panaderia emanuel Posted on 06/03/2016
This item arrived sooner than expected which made it even better. The blade is rather difficult to remove for cleaning. You have to take you time removing it and be extremely careful not to cut yourself because of the housing around it. I mean extremely careful. Overall, this is a handsome, well built slicer and exactly what I have been looking for.
Melvin T. from MM&M CATERING Posted on 04/29/2016
I owned a slicer made in Poland that I brought back from living in Prague, that lasted for more than 15 years. When the gear stripped and I couldn't get a replacement part, I found this slicer. This is a great value and high quality compared to the slicers sold in stores (it's not plastic)! Also look at the wattage of this slicer compared to the retail ones, to get this power you would be paying twice this amount. Great Product! Great Price and deliver time was also excellent.
Kevin D. Posted on 01/05/2016
This is a nice slicer. We don't have a lot of slicing but it is really nice to have this slicer for a reasonable price. We didn't want to have to invest thousands of dollars to get a slicer for our Bistro.
Patricia H. from Red River Inn Posted on 12/10/2015
Good meat slicer, working as expected, good price, easy to use. However, we hope it can be easier to clean. So far so good :

Solid slicer. For an economy item. Not heavy duty but we don't need a ton of work. Mostly prepping chips and cured meats. Easy to clean, Dummy proof
Carrie B. from West Edge Restaurant & Lounge Posted on 08/10/2015
Honest review for the price it's amazing as something to start off with the blade can be better but all in all it comes back to the price
Diea A. Posted on 07/06/2015
It's perfect for slicing a few blocks of cheese a week. It's definitely much more "powerful" than the slicer we were using and gets the job done much quicker. My only gripes are 1) there is a nut/bolt behind the blade that sometimes catches the cheese slice and tears it 2) there isn't a "tray" underneath to catch the cheese 3) cleaning this thing is kind of a difficult. The instructions (or lack thereof) weren't all that descriptive, and we can't really seem to figure out the best way to clean this thing. Our old slicer was simple to dismantle and we could run parts of it through the dishwasher, but we've pretty much been wiping this one down bc it doesn't really come apart. Definitely recommended for light duty, but wish it were easier to clean.
Amber D. Posted on 06/24/2015
Great meat slicer for a great price. Who says that deli slicers have to cost thousands of dollars? This does the job and does it well!

Jamie H. from Genos giant slice Posted on 01/18/2015
We use this meat slicer for our chicken and salami and it works out pretty well. There are times that the blade gets jammed, but it is easily fixed by cleaning up the area surrounding the blade.
Kristin A. from Simply Natural Cafe Posted on 12/03/2014
Great slicer for the price. We use it 2-4 times a week to slice meat and cheese for a coffee shop. Does the job and we would recommend it for lighter use.

I am really disappointed of webstaurant store. I bought it more than a month ago, and I can't still use my slicer. By mistake, I bought a smaller slicer, so I request a refund. The personnel at my restaurant had opened it and test it, so they didn't made me the return, since the slicer was used (in their opinion because it was brand new). It was ok, I was going to use it anyway, so I request that they sent it back to me. But it arrived with bumps, scratches and with some parts broken. Instead of offering me too replace it, they offered me credit. My experience buying equipment for my restaurant at this website was really terrible. If you can, pay a little bit more at amazon or another store that has better customer service. But don't buy here. I will never buy here.

Great little slicer. It is good for slicing deli meats, soft cheeses, and vegetables. I wouldn't recommend it for harder items such as frozen food or hard cheeses. Overall a great item for what I need it for. Will probably buy another slicer that is a little more heavy duty for the harder items.
Michael C. from Temecula Catering Posted on 05/02/2014
We received the slicer on time and in fine condition. We have only used it once and it worked like a dream, slicing roast beef. Far better than the other two slicers we had in the past. Great so far. Hoping it will continue.

Good slicer for the money. I don't slice a lot so it's good for minimal use. If you slice a lot I'd go with a bigger unit but this is worth the money for what I use it for.

We are a coffee company that provides "box lunches" and other meats / cheeses for our guests. This slicer was the cheapest we could find but works well. While we know it isn't the best on the market, we feel like we got what we paid for. Be prepared for a messy work station and a bit longer cleaning process. It's good to go though.

The whole unit disassembles quickly for easy cleaning, and its durable exterior is made to stand up to the rigors of a commercial kitchen. I purchased this slicer in late July of 2015 and at the time, we couldn't be happier. My restaurant had been limping along with an old Hobart that I got used and after being open for a few months, I knew that it was time to spend some money on a new slicer. I would consider my restaurant to be a mid-sized deli - we get slammed from 11:30-2 and coast for the rest of the day making deli sandwiches. We're not a grocery store slicing whole cheese logs and meats by the pound all day. So I assumed that the Berkel 827A Plus, what Webrestaurantstore and Berkel call a mid-tier slicer would fit perfectly. Nope. For a while things were great. Compared to the old creaky Hobart, it was slicing thin and acting great. The slicer is too small for a large prosciutto, so we would have to cut away parts of the meat to accommodate the small tray size. From the end of July to March of this year, We have gone through three on/off switches. The switch is cheaply made with very thin springs and is all plastic. There is an on button and a separate off button - when one pushes in, the other pops out. On, off, on, off, eventually break. When I contacted Berkel about this, I was told that they knew about the bad switch and that they revised the switch. When I told our repairman this, on the third time that he came out, he chuckled and told me that the switches that he has been replacing are those replacement switches and that they still keep breaking. The pusher that acts as a hand guard on the slicer has a little plastic peg that keeps the pusher from hitting the meat tray (where you place the meat on the slicer) I believe we have gone through two of those. With the first replacement, the repairman changed out the whole guard replacing it with a new style of guard. The old one had raised triangles in the metal that kind of acted like teeth, keeping the meat in place. The new one has sharp spikes all over it on 2 sides of the pusher. These spikes dig into the meat and if they are not paying attention, the person slicing the meat or the employee that is doing the dishes. The second time the peg broke, it caused all of those spikes to scrape along the aluminum part of the slicer where the meat slides back and forth. That part also had to be replaced because the surface was now grooved, causing a place where bacteria could form. The repairman told me that if a health inspector had come in while the slicer was like that, they would have shut my store down. So that makes three switches, two pushers, one meat tray and whatever the flat part that the meat slides across is called. All replaced in eight months. And two days ago, my employee told me that the power button is acting funny again. Just an FYI, there is a one year warranty on this machine, so the repairs haven't cost me yet, but July is fast approaching and these are parts that keep breaking from daily use. I have contacted Webrestaurantstore to try to resolve the issue, but they do not take refunds or credit purchases. I have contacted Berkel and have been dealing with the Sales Development Manager, who was handling my repairs, but now seems to not be returning calls. I think that Berkel may have decent products but ABSOLUTELY not this model. The repairman says that, as far as the switch issue goes, it happens all the time with this specific unit. Another restaurant in our area has the same slicer and its issues are the same. If Berkel or Webrestaurantstore would credit me for what was spent on the slicer originally, I would love to take the more industrial sized models for a spin, as they look like they don't have the same parts as these cheaper models, but the outlook isn't looking good. Steer clear of the Berkel 827A Plus at all costs. Either go with a different brand at the same price point or save and try a more robust model.
Chris D. from Luigi's Italian Deli Posted on 04/19/2016
The belt has to be replaced two months after I purchased the slicer. The belt is not cover under their 1 year warranty, therefore I had to replace a brand new belt at our expense.
Brendan G. Posted on 12/13/2016
Nice slicer for the price. It gets proscuitto paper thin! Easy clean up as well. It doesn't do great with longer logs of cheese but it is manageable
Kristin S. Posted on 12/06/2016
This slicer works well with cheese and i would give it 5 stars, except for some irritating small issues. Right out of the box, the knob of the shaft to tight the blade plate was loose and i have not been able to find any glue to refasten it. so the plate is loose and creates a real racket.
Linda L. Posted on 12/05/2016
The best small slicer. period. If you own a small restaurant that does not have to cut blocks of cheese then this is the one for you. I have just bought a new one for my second location, and it is fast, sharp and easy to clean. My older 827 is 10 years old and never had one problem. Still Italian made!
Allen T. from the french market Posted on 09/08/2014

Light weight but works like a beast. Very easy to clean which is key when it comes to a slicer. I'd buy 100 more if we could. Some parts are plastic so you do need to take care not to bee to hard on them

This is a great mid-range slicer. The slicer is built pretty well and seems to be very durable. The only drawback is the blade guard is permanent and a little difficult to clean and sanitize.
Jason S. Posted on 11/07/2016
OUr first one came busted, but we were able to return quickly and receive a new one. We slice meat and bread daily with it. Very durable for our volume. We sharpen the blade every other month.
Logan F. Posted on 07/29/2016
This a great slicer! I was in a pinch and needed one ASAP. I got it in 2 days. It is a great unit. It slices very quietly- you can barely tell it is on. Super sharp out of the box. We slice coldcuts as well as an occasional half frozen ribeye for steak sandwiches. Although not recommended in the details of this item to do it, that's what we need it to do and it does it flawlessly- it doesn't bind up or slow down at all. Cleans up very easily as well. The blade plate and carriage come off easy and the unit has less cracks and hiding places for stuff to hide when wiping it down. Fairly light to the size of the unit so easier to move around when needed. It does not have a prop bar but being light as it is, it is pretty easy to lift up and wipe under. I highly recommend this to anyone needing a reliable slicer for small to medium usage.
Greg B. from Big Family Pizza, Inc Posted on 02/20/2016
We are so glad we purchased this item. We forgot what it was like to have a brand new slicer and man is it worth it!
Lena G. from Mainstreet Pub Posted on 11/27/2015
We've been using the new slicer for about 2 weeks now and we love it. Very easy to take apart to clean. The shield goes all the way around the blade. There are two bolts on the front that hold the fixed guide plate to the base that you can untighten a bit, allowing you to adjust the plate to be more aligned with the blade. We had to adjust it a bit for an even cut, nice feature but wish we didn't have to do the adjusting in the first place.
Chase V. from Shawn O'Donnell's American Grill and Irish Pub Posted on 10/24/2015
I have been using this slicer for over a year now. It is still slicing like the first day we got it. It is lightweight, easy to clean, and provides a great looking product.

Priced priced slicer, unless you are doing ridiculous volume you don't need to spend 6K+ on a heavy duty automatic. We prefer this Berkel manual because it allows you to mange portioning easily!

I purchased this slicer to start a lunch service for our bakery. I average about 30lbs of deli meat to cut a week - this slicer will cut all day w/o any problems. It handles cheese w/o any problems. Cleaning is a breeze and the design is well thought out. I did my research on this slicer prior to my purchase and the 1/2 hp is a must! I would definitely recommend! - JJ

This slicer is well-designed, easy to take apart and clean, and easy to put back together. And while it's a solid unit, it's not so heavy that I can't move it myself. It's a terrific value and even if I had a larger budget to play with, I'd buy this one again!

We bought this Hobart meat slicer in May 2016 (Hobart HS6N-1 13" Manual Slicer) with high hope that this will last us many years. 2 months using this equipment since we opened our restaurant, and the slicer is going bad already. We called Hobart local service to come out check as the slicer was making unusual noise and the gauge plate is moving. They came out replaced a few parts. Few days later, the slicer started making louder noise so we called in for service again. They came out to do service 2 more times and each time replaced a different bearing (top and bottle). The problem still not fixed or should I say it got worse. The service technician said they are ordering a new shaft to replace which will take 5-10 days, but no warranty that the new shaft will fix the problem. Since this is the heart of our business (no slicer=business shut down), I asked if they can provide a loaner but no luck there. I called Hobart service again and again, but still no progress. Bottom line is that for the money we spent on this slicer for it to go out within 2 months is not worth it. We are looking to buy another slicer as an alternative solution.

I had this slicer in Italy and I love it because it's the only one that you can clean easy and in every part. I love to remove the blade and put in dishwasher. For me the better
