Blodgett Convection Oven Troubleshooting Guide

A malfunctioning convection oven is a major inconvenience, and even ovens from top brands like Blodgett can experience issues from time to time. Fortunately, many of these problems can be fixed easily! We'll take you through some simple steps to try on your Blodgett convection oven first and let you know when it's best to give your repair service a call.

Blodgett Convection Oven is Not Heating Up

Here are some things to check if your convection oven is not heating up.

Check the gas valve. If the gas is turned off, turn the gas valve to the ON position.

Check if the oven is plugged in. Plug in your power cord if necessary.

Check the power switch on the control panel. Set the control panel to COOK or OVEN ON.

Check the control temperature. If the control is set below ambient temperature, set it to the desired cook temperature.

Check for open door(s). Close any open oven door. If you’re unable to close the door, check if something is obstructing it or if the gasket is dirty or cracked. A dirty or damaged door gasket or hinge could also be preventing the door from closing. Clean or replace if necessary.

Blodgett Convection Oven is Taking Too Long To Preheat

When the oven ready light is lit, this indicates that the burners are operating. When the light goes out, this indicates that the oven has reached operating temperature and is ready to use. If your oven is taking too long to preheat or is not preheating correctly, here are some causes to check for. If the issue persists after checking for the following, there could be an internal problem with the main temperature control. This will need to be fixed by an authorized service technician.

Check if the fan delay is activated. If your model has the fan delay feature, deactivate this feature so your unit can heat up quickly.

Check the gas valve. The gas valve might not be turned on completely – turn on fully if necessary.

Check if the quick disconnect is disconnected. Reconnect the quick disconnect and check all gas connections on the unit.

Check the gas pressure. If you notice the gas pressure to your oven is too low, call your local gas company to remedy the problem.

Blodgett Convection Oven Fan Does Not Run

Here are some common causes to check for that can prevent the convection fan from running.

Check if the oven is plugged in. Plug in your power cord if necessary.

Check for open door(s). Close any open oven door. If you’re unable to close the door, check if something is obstructing it or if the gasket is dirty or cracked. A dirty or damaged door gasket or hinge could also be preventing the door from closing. Clean or replace if necessary.

Check the power switch on the control panel. Set the control panel to COOK or OVEN ON.

Check the circuit breaker. Reset the circuit breaker if it is tripped.

Check if the fan delay is activated. If your model has the fan delay feature, deactivate this feature so your unit can heat up quickly.

Blodgett Convection Oven is Having General Baking Problems

If you are experiencing general baking issues, here are some things to make sure you are doing to ensure a smooth operation.

Make sure your unit is properly installed. Ensure your unit is installed correctly and the initial startup is completed by an authorized technician. Reference your model’s service manual for installation instructions.

Regularly clean your oven with a commercial-grade oven cleaner. It is important to regularly clean both the interior and exterior of your oven to extend the life of your unit and keep service calls to a minimum. Be sure to also clean the cooling fan weekly to ensure the air intake behind the oven is free of lint, grease, and other obstructions that can inhibit air flow. Reference your model’s service manual for proper cleaning procedures.

Regularly conduct maintenance checks. Check your venting system at least once a year for possible deterioration resulting from moisture and corrosive flue products.

Make sure controls are programmed correctly. Incorrect product programming of the computerized controls can affect baking. Reference the model’s service manual to reprogram the controls.

When to call an authorized service technician? If you’re experiencing improper oven venting, an error code displaying on computerized controls, or a thermostat out of calibration, it is time to give your service agent a call.

Where to Find a Blodgett Serial Number

The model and serial numbers are listed on a Blodgett oven's identification plate. Below is a list of where to find the identification plate on some popular models.

Zephaire G & E Models. The plate is located on the left side of the combustion compartment as well as above the control panel.

CTB and CTBR Models. The plate is located on the back of the oven.

SHO Models. The plate is located above the right hand door.

CNVX Models. The plate is located on the left side of the combustion compartment as well as above the control panel.

BDO Models. The plate is located on the top of the right hand side of the oven.

How to Read a Blodgett Serial Number

The serial number can include three to four pieces of information: the date the unit was manufactured, the model's letter code, the factory sequence code, and in some cases the section ID to indicate top or bottom unit.

  1. Date: the six-digit date code always appears at the beginning of the serial number and it indicates the month, day, and year the oven was manufactured.
  2. Letter Code: the two-digit letter code comes after the date and it indicates the equipment model. Reference your model's replacement parts list if you need help finding the letter code for your model.
  3. Factory Sequence: the three-digit factory sequence code comes after the letter code.
  4. Section ID: on select double deck models the serial number will end in either a "T" or a "B" to denote that it is the top or bottom unit.
