How to Sharpen Your Knives

Keep your knives sharp and performing at a high level with regular sharpening and maintenance! Watch this video to learn the proper techniques to sharpening with a stone, and how regular maintenance will extend the life of your knives!

Follow these quick and easy steps to properly sharpen your knives. Place a damp towel on a cutting board to keep the stone in place. Then lubricate the stone with oil or water. Before you begin, you’ll need to find the optimal 22.5 degree sharpening angle. To do this, hold the knife at a 90 degree angle. Then, half the angle to 45 degrees, and then half it again to 22.5 degrees. Next, pull the knife heel to toe, following the proper angle about 5 to 10 times. Then flip the knife and repeat. This time push the knife toe to heel about 5 to 10 times, being sure to maintain the angle. Then flip the knife and repeat. To use a sharpening steel, start again with a damp towel on a cutting board to keep the steel in place. Then find your 22.5 degree angle. Pull the knife heel to toe, alternating sides around 5 to 10 times. Wipe down the blade with a damp towel, and you’ll have a sharp knife ready to tackle all of your daily prep work!

oil sharpening knives stone Mineral stones Norton sharpen bottle great
A great size so that I don't have to stock up as often, while not being too much to be unwieldy. Perfect for my sharpening stones.
This particular oil is essential to the operation of our tri - stone sharpening system, this is crucial in putting a very nice edge on knives.
The oil itself is fine. Typical mineral oil used for knife sharpening with a sharpening stone. My issue here is bottle, which leaked from the top, with the top tightly secured. Good thing it was stored in a ziplock bag. The oil itself for the price is fine, that would have been a 4 but with the bottle issue....2

I'm more used to water stones, so I don't have much to compare when it comes to oils used for oil stones, but it works just fine.
Norton mineral oil is essential for making the Victorinox 3-way honing system run at it's peak. It makes sharpening knives easier and makes your kitchen knives sharper.
I use this oil to sharpen all my knives. The only change I would make is having it come in a squeeze bottle. Outside of that it is perfect
What can you say about honing oil, other than it works. So, is works. my knives sharpen easily and as they are victorinox knifes they, bought here, hold their edge.
This stuff works great. I poured some in a squeeze bottle and that was a big help when I set to work sharpening an entire kitchen's knives (that haven't been sharpened in literally 2 years - I thought I'd never be done). Unlike water, this oil maintains it's friction-reducing properties much longer, so I didn't have to stop as often while working.
Norton Mineral Oil is great for any Norton and non-Norton sharpening stones. It doesn't take much oil to sharpen a knife, so buying a pint at a time will go a long way!
This worked well with the 12" sharpening stone that I purchased. I would recommend to be knowledgeable about using sharpening stones before using. Thanks so much!
The Norton mineral oil is a very nice oil for use on any sharpening stone. It is clean and leaves no residue. A little more expensive than some, but worth it.
When using a sharpening stone you need mineral oil to slide the knife. This is great oil to have along with your sharpening stone. Great product.
Knife juice - don;t try to sharpen without it. Good quality mineral oil for honing your kitchen knives, samurai sword or zombie hatchet. Have some on hand before the Apocalypse.
This is the only minerial oil you will need for your sharpening stone! Pint size will last for months depending on how often you sharpen your knives!!
