How to Season Your Pans

How to Season Your Pans

Today we're going to show you how to season cooking pans. Pan seasoning is essential to any food service operation, as it keeps your pans from rusting and your food from sticking to the pans. Seasoning cooking pans saves you time and money. We'll show you how to season five different types of cooking pans in this video. A cast iron skillet, a carbon steel fry pan, a carbon steel wok, a tin-plated pan, and a hard coat aluminum pan.

Pan seasoning is essential for keeping your pans performing their best in your kitchen. This instructional video will show you the proper steps to seasoning your cooking pans based on their material.

How to Season a Pan

How to Season a Pan

For a carbon steel pan, start by washing, rinsing, and drying the pan. Heat the pan on your range on medium to high heat, then add shortening to the pan. Use a clean dry towel to spread the shortening around the interior of the pan, creating an even coat. Remove the pan from the heat, wipe out the excess shortening and let it cool. You can repeat this process up to 3 more times. For a cast iron skillet, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and set aside. Wash, rinse, and dry your skillet. Place the skillet in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove and coat the entire skillet with shortening, inside and out. Place the skillet in the oven for 45 minutes with the baking pan on a rack below it to catch any mess. You can repeat this process up to three more times.

Seasoning your pans enables you to cook great-tasting food with minimal oil, butter, or fat. It also provides a stick-resistant surface, allowing for easy clean up, and will keep your pans from rusting quickly. Check out this video to learn how to season cast iron and carbon steel pans.

We love using every size of these cake pans for our bakery. We get a lot of cake orders that always range in size so it's great to have such a selection. They bake evenly and the cakes pull from the sides well. This pan is perfect for a standard at home cake.
I was skeptical about buying these pans for cake but after reading reviews I decided to try them...well I wish I would have tried them sooner because they work well and half the price of other cake pans.
These pans saved us when it comes to cheesecakes!! We were initially using 9" springform pans to bake cheesecake fillings then realized that these work just as well! We also use them to bake 9" cakes as well.
Great Value! The pan is great for baking cakes. The cake baked nicely and was easy to take out of the pan. Definitely Recommend it!
I used this pan and found it to be far more superior that the wilton pans I had been using. Produced a very evenly baked cake. I am going to order more.
These are great pans! They have straight sides and cook evenly. I use these for baking cakes, and think they are on par with name brand bakeware. I actually prefer these over my Wilton cake pans. You can't beat the price, so be sure to stock up!
These pans heats up very good and evenly, I have the perfect rise on all my baked goods and my cakes are all level well
a perfect classic cake pan. these are sturdy and clean easily and as i bought several of them, i can make multiple cakes at the same time. they're great!
Excellent cake pan for ice cream cakes and more. We use these in my store for a variety of uses. I highly recommend and the price is excellent!
Bought 4 of these pan and made 4 layers cake that stands nicely. It saved my time on baking using all 4 at once. It is also cleans easily.

Seriously love these high grade quality pans , can't beat the price for quality!!! Worked well on my layer cake live these pans, truly impressed!
These pans are great quality for the price. Very sturdy & wash up well for me. My cake baked well & did not stick. Highly satisfied
These pans are great! You can beat the price, and they bake our cakes nice and evenly. We use them for all of our 9" layer cakes.
These cake pans are amazing! My cake baked up beautifully in them. They are nice and sturdy. I can't wait to try a deep dish pizza in them!
This cake pan is deep enough to make a beautiful layer cake. Purchased a lot of those cause I think they are the best quality (especially for price) you can buy.
This is the perfect pan for making layered cakes with. My cakes are nice and evenly baked without excess browning on the surfaces. I bought more in other sizes.
Great basic pan for cakes. With a little grease on the sides nothing sticks, and the cakes drop right out. We have these pans in multiple sizes and have had no problems with any of them.
I already purchased a heavy weight version and decided to get the standard weight version. While definitely thinner and lighter, the quality is great. The finish on these pans are actually better than the heavier gauge pans which had some deep manufacturing scratches that I sanded down prior to seasoning. These pans are cheap and tend to be a work horse in kitchens. Since this is an uncoated pan, you may want to season it so that protects the metal from acids but helps create a non-stick coating over time. It’s very hard to say anything negative about these pans because of the awesome price. Will definitely buy more.
I used this pan for the first time today, and I am very pleased with how well it worked. I will definitely order more in different sizes.
