This skillet comes pre-seasoned with soy oil, ensuring it offers a natural, easy-release finish that only improves with use. New cookware could experience some minor sticking, if this occurs you can use a light amount of oil to alleviate the food adhesion. How can I properly care for cast iron surfaces?
In order to prevent unwanted build-up of oils, grease, and food, surfaces should be cleaned after use while still slightly warm. Harsh chemicals or scouring pads should not be used—only hot water and a cloth or sponge are needed. If some areas require extra cleaning, a mild scouring pad can be used. Please refer to our Pan Seasoning Guide for further information on properly cleaning and seasoning cast iron surfaces.
My new cast iron feels rough in some areas. Is this normal?
Yes. This is a result of the sand casting process. With use and replenishment of the seasoning, the pan will become smoother. Unlike other types of cookware, Lodge Cast Iron only gets better with use. For concerns about roughness, it is OK to use a fine grade of sandpaper to smooth out the rough areas. Make sure to re-season the item before using.
How is Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware seasoned?
All of Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware is seasoned with soy-based vegetable oil. No peanut oil or animal fat is used.

Today we're going to show you how to season cooking pans. Pan seasoning is essential to any food service operation, as it keeps your pans from rusting and your food from sticking to the pans. Seasoning cooking pans saves you time and money. We'll show you how to season five different types of cooking pans in this video. A cast iron skillet, a carbon steel fry pan, a carbon steel wok, a tin-plated pan, and a hard coat aluminum pan.

How to Season a Pan

Seasoning your pans enables you to cook great-tasting food with minimal oil, butter, or fat. It also provides a stick-resistant surface, allowing for easy clean up, and will keep your pans from rusting quickly. Check out this video to learn how to season cast iron and carbon steel pans.

For a carbon steel pan, start by washing, rinsing, and drying the pan. Heat the pan on your range on medium to high heat, then add shortening to the pan. Use a clean dry towel to spread the shortening around the interior of the pan, creating an even coat. Remove the pan from the heat, wipe out the excess shortening and let it cool. You can repeat this process up to 3 more times. For a cast iron skillet, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and set aside. Wash, rinse, and dry your skillet. Place the skillet in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove and coat the entire skillet with shortening, inside and out. Place the skillet in the oven for 45 minutes with the baking pan on a rack below it to catch any mess. You can repeat this process up to three more times.

    These are the cutest little skillets - however, they are probably JUST on the small side of being appropriate for an appetizer for a single person. I would say they are more of a 'tasting' dish size, or perfect if your appetizer is taller than it is wide (such as a slider instead of a dip or if you want to serve a warm dipping sauce). However you use them, the novelty size factor is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

    The name says it all Lodge. They are really little. They measure from handle to tip of pan. Can use as melted butter servers. They come already seasoned. That saves time.

    These little guys are great to make egg muffins for breakfast. They work in glass top induction and on the bbq. I've even used them as spacers to lift a mesh basket in the oven when I do a dry rub convection roast for pork shoulder. Can also be used as a spoon rest.

    This might be the most adorable pan on earth. We are using them to make mini hash brown skillets and mini cookies topped with ice cream. Serve it right in this little baby!
    Sturdy little skillet. Thought I was going to use them for a cobbler dessert but they are too small for that. Will use them for a small individual side instead. Still super cute just smaller than I imagined. Wish they provided dimensions instead of capacity.
    These little skillets are adorable! They fit the theme of our establishment perfectly, and for a great price! Just be careful, they definitely hold in the heat.
    We used these for serving dishes for mini apple crisps at our women's Christmas party themed "Christmas at the Lodge". They were a HUGE hit & all of the ladies loved them!
    LOVE these little guys. We use them for individual sides and tiny little cobblers. They do need to be seasoned and cared for well, i.e. oiling etc. Great quality and super sturdy (they're iron for goodness sake).

    We use this for skillet desserts and it works like a charm. The seasoning that Lodge does on their products is top notch and with care, sticks up to repeat use, melted and charred sugar and repeat baking at high temp.     The Lodge 3 1/2” Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Mini Sillet- Individual Serving is heavy weight and very sturdy. It is great for making appetizers, considering the size. It comes pre-seasoned which is a time saver.
    This mini lodge cast iron skillet is a very small size, but is a perfect size for making individual single egg rounds for a sandwich.

    This item is very small and shallow, but we wanted a rustic looking gravy serving container and this does the trick, just be sure to look at dimensions to get an idea of how small this thing is.
