Satin Ice Fondant: Color Mixing

Satin Ice Fondant: Color Mixing

In this video, we'll cover mixing fondant together to create unique colors. Using a part system is the best way to scale your portions up or down for a project. Here we have equal parts of orange, blue, and bright green as an example. For our project, we're going to choose a pinkish purple on the color mix guide on satinice.com. When you choose your swatch, a formula of parts is given. This color calls for ten parts pink, eight parts purple, and three parts red. Now you can mix these colors together by kneading. While it's always best to use pre-colored fondant, you can also try using a dye. If you're going to try dying the fondant, we recommend using gel paste. Remember, never try to achieve a dark color using a light fondant. Not only will it be really expensive to dye, but also too much of it can alter the fondant. Your color is finished once it is all blended together. Move immediately into rolling, otherwise wrap the fondant air tight for later.

This video from Satin Ice shows you exactly how to mix different colored fondants to create a brand new, unique color. A parts system is the best way to achieve consistent results, so make sure to scale your portions correctly prior to beginning!

black fondant color Ice Satin great cakes Coloring best due

If you have ever tried to color your fondant black, or even red for that matter, you'll know it ain't an easy task. It can take a lot of coloring and staining.. and then time for the fondant to turn to get darker. We always buy premade black and red due to this fact. It makes our lives easier and saves us so much time. Haha.

Satin Ice never lets us down!

We make most of our colors for fondant- however black and red are the ones we prefer to get pre made- they are always so vibrant and ready to use without having to wait for them to "turn" and get darker. I HIGHLY suggest Satin Ice for all your fondant needs- especially for Black and Red!

Black can be a difficult color. It is hard to get just right and then nearly impossible to match if you need more. This is black fondant ready to use and perfectly easy then to match. It has good flavor it too.

This brand of fondant is very forgiving as far as its workability. It comes in a very nicely sealed tub that you can reuse while you are rolling out.

from Janie Mae's Cakes Posted on

I agree with other reviewers who have talked about how hard it is to make your own black fondant, and how with this wonderful black fondant you do not have to worry about the mess. Truthfully, the taste of this fondant is just as impressive, and it rolls out easily for use on cakes, cupcakes, etc.

Coloring white fondant with black food coloring can be a messy. The Satin Ice black fondant has a great taste, very smooth and you don’t spend all your time trying to get the real black color. I really recommend this product.

Mickey Mouse Cake. ( Black Fondant - Satin Ice Black)

Coloring white fondant with black food coloring can be messy, time consuming and leave you with a purple-black or other semi-black color. This pre-colored Satin Ice black fondant leaves more time for what I really love...cake decorating! One of the best things about this is that it won't leave your hands stained black & there is no need to add extra color. Perfect for Halloween & Over the Hill cakes.

I love this fondant because many black fondants are not very easy to use due to the poor quality---if you have tried to make your own you likely resulted to buying it due to the incredibly awful flavor brought forth due to the crazy amount of food die necessary to achieve such a bold black--must buy. I have a pail in my kitchen at all times, you cant go wrong.

If you have ever tried to color your own frosting or fondant black, you know that it can drastically alter the taste of your product...which can essentially destroy your finished product. This for me has been the perfect alternative.
