Dark green in color, these thin, delicate leaves have a sweet, slightly minty, peppery taste and a refreshing scent.

Basil pairs nicely with a variety of other traditional herbs including parsley, rosemary, oregano, thyme, and sage. It is a must have for any tomato-based sauce, and it can be used to enhance the natural flavors of beef, poultry, and fish. You can chiffonade this basil and mix it into garden salad or sprinkle it onto bright and juicy caprese salad. Or, use the leaves to garnish hot, crispy chicken parmesan, or add them to a fresh-baked Neapolitan pizza. Note that cooking quickly destroys the delicate flavor of basil, and it is most commonly added at the last moment to many recipes.
