How can I properly care for cast iron surfaces?
In order to prevent unwanted build-up of oils, grease, and food, surfaces should be cleaned after use while still slightly warm. Harsh chemicals or scouring pads should not be used—only hot water and a cloth or sponge are needed. If some areas require extra cleaning, a mild scouring pad can be used. Please refer to our Pan Seasoning Guide for further information on properly cleaning and seasoning cast iron surfaces.
Is it possible to change the type of grill plate on my panini grill from smooth to grooved, or vice versa?
No, the manufacturer does not recommend changing the grill plate type on your panini grill. In the event that a replacement plate is needed, the plate type must match the one currently on your grill.

Get the most out of your panini grill by regularly cleaning and reseasoning the cast iron plates! Not only does this keep the plates naturally non-stick for smooth release, it also helps prolong the grill's service life and optimize your investment.

Keeping your Panini grill seasoned is an important step in maintaining the cast iron plates. Once you have received your Panini grill, it’s important to take the proper steps in caring for it before your first use. In order to protect the plates of your new grill during transportation, a layer of food-safe oil was coated on the surface prior to shipment. This oil is harmless, but must be removed before you begin to use.To remove, preheat the grill to 350 degrees f or until the oil liquifies. Next, carefully wipe away the melted oil with a clean, soft cloth and clean the surfaces with hot water and a mild dish detergent. Once the oil is removed and you have cleaned the surface, you are ready to season. Seasoning is important for any cast iron item used in the kitchen. It will keep your Panini grill from rusting and ensure a nice stick resistant surface. To season, preheat the grill to 400 degrees F. Once the preheat light turns off, place a small amount of oil in center of the grill. Using a soft dry cloth, spread the oil around covering the top and bottom of the grill. Let heat for 15min or until all oil has been burnished. Your grill may need to be reseasoned periodically due to heavy cleaning. For a carbon steel pan, start by washing, rinsing, and drying the pan. Heat the pan on your range on medium to high heat, then add shortening to the pan. Use a clean dry towel to spread the shortening around the interior of the pan, creating an even coat. Remove the pan from the heat, wipe out the excess shortening and let it cool. You can repeat this process up to 3 more times. For a cast iron skillet, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and set aside. Wash, rinse, and dry your skillet. Place the skillet in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove and coat the entire skillet with shortening, inside and out. Place the skillet in the oven for 45 minutes with the baking pan on a rack below it to catch any mess. You can repeat this process up to three more times.

Panini grill seasoning, cleaning, and maintenance instructions. First, place the grill in a well-ventilated area, and discard the protective film. Then, clean the surface of the grill with soap and hot water. Wipe clean with a wet cloth. Plug in the grill to an electrical outlet, and turn the grill to the maximum setting. Switch the unit on. Smoke will appear as factory sediments burn off. Wait approximately 45 minutes. Once that's done, turn off the grill and let it cool. For the initial seasoning, pour shortening or vegetable oil on a brush or towel. Apply that oil to the grill plates and outer edges. Then allow the oil to set and dry. The plates will season automatically upon use, making the surface naturally non-stick. When cleaning the cast iron plates on a daily basis, use the included brush / scraper to scrape residue into the drip tray. Cover the entire plate at medium heat with a clean, damp rag, and close the grill on the rag. Let it sit for 1 minute. Then, with tongs or a spatula, remove the rag from the plates. Use caution, as the rag will be very hot. Wipe off any residual moisture, and let the grill cool. Reseason the grill weekly to prevent rusting. To do so, simply repeat the initial seasoning steps. This will help ensure that your panini grill is ready for years of use.

    We purchased this grill almost a year ago and so far we have no complaints. We use the grill for paninis and grill cheese sandwiches - it cooks the sandwiches evenly, melts all the cheese and gives it a nice crispy brown finish all in other 5 minutes. The grill is very easy to clean especially if you use the brush that it comes with.
    This panini grill is a great addition to any coffee shop! It's easy to use and can hold up to four sandwiches at a time!
    Unfortunately, my review is negative. I am returning this grill, as the tensions on the top plates are continually needing tightening. After several uses at my busy restaurant, I must stop and tighten the tension on the top plate trying not to burn myself. In addition, the top plates mash the food toward the back of the grill due to the wiring cable that pushes the grill down in the back. Just a poor engineering design! I have tried to make it work, but it is making it harder for me to enjoy my commercial kitchen! I am ordering another brand that will hopefully stay tightened throughout the day and will not smash my sandwiches in the back.

    We have been using this press for a few months now, and so far it is working really well. I do wish that the cooking surface was a bit larger, but it is pretty efficient.
    We purchased two of these units for our bar. Within six months one of them had a turn on switch go bad. Waring sent a new unit out and was super easy to work with. Just recently the other unit had a switch go bad. The warranty is only for 1 year - and we've had it for two - which is unfortunate since they are costly. We are talking to an electrician on what it'll take to repair the switch. These do get used almost daily and besides the switch going bad they work well.
    This waring panini press has been a wonderful addition to our nightclub kitchen. The plates are heavy duty and fairly easy to clean. Great price and exceptionally fast shipping.

    This is probably the best Panini Press I have ever used at any restaurant I have worked at. Comes up to temp real quick and can use for multiple sandwiches
    This is a very good product! It comes up to temperature very quickly and stays at temperature just as it should! The grooves make for great grilled sandwiches!!
    We use this machine everyday in our bistro. It warms up fast(within 10-15 mins) and has no problem being left on all day. We are able to fit 4 paninis on at a time. The only reason am giving it 4 stars is because the front 2 paninis take longer to grill than the back 2. Sometimes it just takes a little rotating the paninis halfway through to make sure all 4 are done at the same time. Otherwise awesome machine!!
    If you're a fan of high-performance equipment in a residential kitchen, then the Waring WPG300 Panini Ottimo is for you. It weighs 75 pounds, most of which is due to the 2 upper and 1 lower grooved cast iron plates. Plenty of 'thermal mass' is available for the 3,200 watts of heat power to deeply penetrate sandwiches, chicken, steaks, etc. We use ours on top of the stove to make use of the vent hood. Two hundred & forty volts ROCKS!
