How to Season a Pan

For a carbon steel pan, start by washing, rinsing, and drying the pan. Heat the pan on your range on medium to high heat, then add shortening to the pan. Use a clean dry towel to spread the shortening around the interior of the pan, creating an even coat. Remove the pan from the heat, wipe out the excess shortening and let it cool. You can repeat this process up to 3 more times. For a cast iron skillet, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and set aside. Wash, rinse, and dry your skillet. Place the skillet in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove and coat the entire skillet with shortening, inside and out. Place the skillet in the oven for 45 minutes with the baking pan on a rack below it to catch any mess. You can repeat this process up to three more times.

Need to restore your Lodge cast iron product? With these 5 easy steps, your cast iron will be looking good as new! Simply scrub, wash, dry, oil, and bake. First, scrub the cast iron until all residue is off. Then wash with water, using soap only if desired. Then completely dry it. Next, use a small amount of cooking oil to coat all surfaces. Finally, place a piece of aluminum foil on the bottom rack of your oven to catch any drippings. Place your product on the first rack. Heat. Prep. Griddle. How to griddle with Lodge cast iron. Heat both sides to medium low. Large burner may need to be turned down for even heat. 8 minutes. The perfect opportunity to prep. Prep, peel, and press. Thin layer of mayo. Seriously, try it. Water sizzles at medium heat. Cook for 1 and a half minutes on each side. Cook sausage for 3 minutes. Brown half way. Add oil to pan (if you want to). Griddle. If it's bouncy let it sit. If it's firm, it's good to go. Cook eggs for 2 minutes, then flip and top with cheddar. Eggs are done in 2 minutes. Lodge cast iron. iron is hot.

How can I properly care for cast iron surfaces?
In order to prevent unwanted build-up of oils, grease, and food, surfaces should be cleaned after use while still slightly warm. Harsh chemicals or scouring pads should not be used—only hot water and a cloth or sponge are needed. If some areas require extra cleaning, a mild scouring pad can be used. Please refer to our Pan Seasoning Guide for further information on properly cleaning and seasoning cast iron surfaces.
My new cast iron feels rough in some areas. Is this normal?
Yes. This is a result of the sand casting process. With use and replenishment of the seasoning, the pan will become smoother. Unlike other types of cookware, Lodge Cast Iron only gets better with use. For concerns about roughness, it is OK to use a fine grade of sandpaper to smooth out the rough areas. Make sure to re-season the item before using.
How is Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware seasoned?
All of Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware is seasoned with soy-based vegetable oil. No peanut oil or animal fat is used.
My griddle isn’t heating evenly – is something wrong?
Just like electric or gas griddles, portable griddles are subject to hot and cold spots, depending on the location of the burners underneath the cooking surface. Areas that are between burners will not get as hot as areas that are directly over burners. The griddle material can also affect the consistency of the surface temperature, as different metals heat at different rates.

    I love it and very well made, I use this to make homemade tortillas and works perfect without sticking. I cant wait to use it for other foods. i highly recommend to get the handle holder as the handle gets super hot.
    WOW!!! What a fantastic griddle to buy. We use it all the time when cooking in or kitchen r when away on camping trips. It cleans up nicely when you follow their directions from Lodge. You will love the cost as it saves you money. My grandparents used these way back in the 50's and now we use it in the 2018.
    I would highly recommend this cast iron skillet for home use or in a restaurant or Cafe. very diversified uses in kitchen even makes great steak's
    A lot of people use this to make pancakes and things on it, but I use it for toast. It is perfect in every way for a nice crispy piece of toast in the morning. My kids love the outcome. I have yet to use it for anything else, but if you have any tips out there. Let me know!
    I use this pan to heat tortilla and make perfect loaded cheese grilled cheese. The even heating cast irons creates is perfect for these staples.

    Cast iron is my favorite way to cook steaks, pancakes, French toast. This pan Keeps the heat even for a long time. The price is outstanding!
    Cast iron griddle is best one for baking pizza. omelette,naan,roti ,dosa. After every use i just wipe it with a tissue paper to remove the excess oil from the griddle. i am almost using everyday for my dinner and breakfast. it is much better than non stick pan. and healthy too.
    The Lodge 10 1/2" Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Griddle is a beautifully made and heavy,, old school pan. We use ours for both pancakes and tortillas.
    If you like pancakes, you will NOT be disappointed! This cast iron LODGE pan is perfect for early-morning pancakes, or late-night quesadillas. Another great thing about this griddle is that it is so super slim that it actually fits underneath my pull out pot drawer, so it takes up virtually no space. I can imagine a grilled salmon coming out perfectly on this......Mmmmmm....Gotta go! The price is right on this griddle, as well, b/c LODGE is such a good brand.
    The Lodge 10 1/2 # cast iron griddle is just the right size, either on the stove, on the grill outside, or in the oven. I have had great results searing (and then baking) fish, and also as an alternative to a baking stone for pizzas.
