How can I properly care for cast iron surfaces?
In order to prevent unwanted build-up of oils, grease, and food, surfaces should be cleaned after use while still slightly warm. Harsh chemicals or scouring pads should not be used—only hot water and a cloth or sponge are needed. If some areas require extra cleaning, a mild scouring pad can be used. Please refer to our Pan Seasoning Guide for further information on properly cleaning and seasoning cast iron surfaces.
My new cast iron feels rough in some areas. Is this normal?
Yes. This is a result of the sand casting process. With use and replenishment of the seasoning, the pan will become smoother. Unlike other types of cookware, Lodge Cast Iron only gets better with use. For concerns about roughness, it is OK to use a fine grade of sandpaper to smooth out the rough areas. Make sure to re-season the item before using.
How is Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware seasoned?
All of Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware is seasoned with soy-based vegetable oil. No peanut oil or animal fat is used.

    I love cooking with this size cast iron at home - it's the perfect size for smaller meals (one or two people) when you don't want to get out the larger cast iron pan. The juices in my food stay more contained and I need to add less butter/oil. It heats evenly and it is a nice, solid pan.

    same good lodge quality at a great price, this skillet has proven to be a very useful - in between - size a great savings in weight from the 10 inch and 12 inch etc. while still being large enough for many if not most skillet tasks when you buy it you will find that at some point in time it will become one of your go to kitchen tools

    this works great for medium size items. I cook fajitas using it all the time. Works exactly as a cast iron should. as always, careful not to burn yourself!

    Lodge is my favorite cast iron label because it is well made and inexpensive. Now it even comes pre-seasoned, although it still requires some additional seasoning before it reaches top nonstick form. This can be done by baking it with oil or bacon/ham grease or just by using it to cook a few times. The more cast iron is used properly, the more nonstick it becomes. If one learns to change cooking habits, following usage and cleaning instructions, better results will be achieved in short order.

    After waiting a month to get the thing because it was back-ordered, I FINALLY got to try out my skillet. I love this thing! Most of my cookware is garden-variety non-stick and hardly suited to things like searing steaks or fajita meat. You can run this pan as hot as you dare without hurting it - works great for steaks, and makes an awesome cheese steak. The pre-seasoned coating works as advertised, and the cast iron gives good heat transfer and VERY even heat across the entire pan. I think I'm going to be using this skillet A LOT.

    Very good shipping and delivery. I received my order in just 3 days! The product was in perfect condition and packaged very well. This is my first Lodge cast iron and it's a workhorse in my kitchen. I'm using it everyday especially for my omelets, fried rice, searing, saute, and even gravies!! I was really looking for a very good quality cast iron skillet because of its durability and flexibility. Imagine its multi-task function.! I can cook from stove top or to the oven or both and then its ready to serve to the dining table. What a save of time and energy. It's easy to clean up too. I just either wipe it with a paper towel or have it run under warm water and that's it. I don't use soap to help keep it shiny because its already seasoned by the manufacturer. What a good value for money with all this job!!!
