In 1929, Thad Garner bought a small barbecue restaurant and acquired the secret recipe for its special, signature sauce. Though the restaurant failed in the throes of the Great Depression, the hot sauce was a hit, with the entire Garner family chipping in to capitalize on its popularity. The Garners, inspired by the popular cowboy heroes of the 1930s, named the sauce Texas Pete. This was a nod to its strength and American origin. Today, the Texas Pete brand features a selection of spicy sauces, but still champions the epic, bold flavor that first shocked taste buds so many years ago.
