I bought this nifty Ateco spiral dipping tool because even though I've literally never dipped balls of anything into chocolate, why not start now? So I didn't have time this afternoon to make confectionary balls of joy, so I ended up doing some chocolate cashew bites instead. At first, I thought I could load the dipping tool with some salty nuts and swirl them around in chocolate; the nuts practically leapt out of the tool before I could get them fully coated. After a few more identical failures (not quite a genius apparently), I threw all the nuts into the pot, coated them evenly, then used the tool to dip out 3-4 nuts, tap off the excess chocolate, and turn it upside down onto a silicone mat. That worked MUCH better. That said, I am glad that I bought one of these, even if I only ever do chocolate nuts rather than malt balls, crushed almond balls covered in coconut flakes, or whatever. That last one sounded good though, so....yeah this is going to get a lot of use.
