Customer questions about this product

How can I properly care for cast iron surfaces?
In order to prevent unwanted build-up of oils, grease, and food, surfaces should be cleaned after use while still slightly warm. Harsh chemicals or scouring pads should not be used—only hot water and a cloth or sponge are needed. If some areas require extra cleaning, a mild scouring pad can be used. Please refer to our Pan Seasoning Guide for further information on properly cleaning and seasoning cast iron surfaces.
My new cast iron feels rough in some areas. Is this normal?
Yes. This is a result of the sand casting process. With use and replenishment of the seasoning, the pan will become smoother. Unlike other types of cookware, Lodge Cast Iron only gets better with use. For concerns about roughness, it is OK to use a fine grade of sandpaper to smooth out the rough areas. Make sure to re-season the item before using.
How is Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware seasoned?
All of Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware is seasoned with soy-based vegetable oil. No peanut oil or animal fat is used.

I enjoy quality kitchen tools. I never minded paying for a quality tool. But when you get prenium quality at a rock bottom price, well it just doesn't get any better than that. Also any of the cast iron products from Lodge will easily last a lifetime or two, with minimal care.

Beautiful skillet, works well on the Weber Grill. Easy to season, we use on a weekly basis. Skillet is great for braising large amounts of food.

Needed a bigger skillet to keep up with the meat sauce I make. Love this one, it's not as heavy as the one I own.

This is a great cast iron skillet, like any Lodge product. It holds a large amount of food. I have used it to cook up potatoes and can easily do a large Paella in this. Cleaning is fairly quick too with a scour pad and stainless steel chain mail, however it can be cumbersome to move due to the large size.

I bought this iron skillet because I wanted to be able to fry or bake large quantities of meats and baked goods. I have a household of 13 and do not want to spend the entire day cooking three or four pcs of meat at a time in a much smaller skillet. This skillet is huge! It is also very heavy. However, the two side handles are a tremendous help. My other large skillet but small compared to this one was very difficult for me to handle despite its smaller size. The long handle meant all the weight hand to be balanced by one hand or holding with two hands. Even with two hands it was hard to balance my other "large" skillet. This skillet holds heat and distributes the heat throughout the skillet. Best results are when you have a large burner. The only reason I gave this skillet four stars is because it does not have a lid to fit. I rarely use this in my home. This is a summer outdoor cookout skillet. The grease and hot oil can pop and crackle without getting my kitchen floor and stove all messy. Cooking for my large family or a large cookout is so much easier with this iron skillet. Every cook needs an iron skillet and every outdoorsman or outdoor chef should have one to impress your guests.

Cast iron is about the most efficient cookware you can use. It retains more heat and you can cook on a lower setting. We use this particular piece to sear and braise. We've done everything from cider donuts to giant focaccia in this indispensable pan.

This large cast iron skillet is perfect for dishes that you start on the stove and finish in the oven. The handles make it easy to hold both sides.
