How can I properly care for cast iron surfaces?
In order to prevent unwanted build-up of oils, grease, and food, surfaces should be cleaned after use while still slightly warm. Harsh chemicals or scouring pads should not be used—only hot water and a cloth or sponge are needed. If some areas require extra cleaning, a mild scouring pad can be used. Please refer to our Pan Seasoning Guide for further information on properly cleaning and seasoning cast iron surfaces.

For a carbon steel pan, start by washing, rinsing, and drying the pan. Heat the pan on your range on medium to high heat, then add shortening to the pan. Use a clean dry towel to spread the shortening around the interior of the pan, creating an even coat. Remove the pan from the heat, wipe out the excess shortening and let it cool. You can repeat this process up to 3 more times. For a cast iron skillet, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and set aside. Wash, rinse, and dry your skillet. Place the skillet in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove and coat the entire skillet with shortening, inside and out. Place the skillet in the oven for 45 minutes with the baking pan on a rack below it to catch any mess. You can repeat this process up to three more times.

    The unit is impressive. It's heft gives it a feeling of a well-built item. Most of the weight being in the cooking surface you'd think that it would hold heat well. But that's where this item falls short. When cooking a large batch of crepes, you immediately begin to notice that each crepe has a different look, texture, etc. That's because the thermostat doesn't seem to keep up with the loss of heat as batter is poured onto the surface. I tried making crepes on a Wolf Griddle (on a 60" dual fuel range). The Wolf had no issues whatsoever and all crepes were consistent. With this item you need to let the cook surface reheat before you can make the next crepe. Not particularly efficient or timely. As I stated, nicely built, but just needs more heat oomph and better thermostatic control.

    I purchased this crepe iron 15 months ago, and I've put approximately 300 hours of use into it. Still running strong! It's easy to use, easy to clean. I thought at first that the handle around the outside was sort of ugly-- but its great for mobility-- moving the crepe iron from counter to counter, especially when the cast iron is still hot. I like this crepe iron so much that I actually purchased a second one!

    We like this Crepe Maker! we have 3, they are very easy to clean. The only thing is that If you make more than 10 in a row it gets to long to get the crepe ready but I recommend it!

    The Carnival King Crepe Maker arrives in a very heavy box that is reinforced with wood. My box was missing the batter spreader and the spatula. As soon as I contacted customer service it was promptly sent out to me. The spreader that comes with the machine is a metal one. I have yet to figure out how this spreader works as it always rips the crepe during spreading. I would honestly recommend getting a wooden spreader as it is easier to use. There was a smallish rough spot on the cooking surface when it arrived. I used a scouring pad and water to gently buff it down and it has caused no problems. Customer service told me if the spot caused any issues that they would replace the unit. The 110 v version takes around 15-20 minutes to heat to the proper cooking temperature. So, you have to leave time to warm it up, it isn't just plug and go. If you have the option for a 220 v machine it may be the superior choice. The price and quality seems to be overall pretty good and I think it is a nicely made purchase. Cleanup is very easy, just a wet micro fiber towel to knock the crumbs off the top and sides while it is still hot. Read Less Read More
