Manitowoc Indigo NXT: Setup Wizard

So today we're looking into setting up the new Indigo NXT ice machine. We're going to plug it in. The first thing the screen is going to do is to check for an update to see if there's any accessories plugged into it. Then, after a brief pause, the screen is going to light up blue, and it's going to take you into a set-up wizard. The set-up wizard on this machine - the first thing it's going to do is ask you to select the language in your local region. You can change the language by pressing the up and down arrows on the screen. But as we are setting up here in the United States, we are going to select English and press the right arrow button. The set-up wizard is going to guide you through a step-by-step process of setting this ice machine up. So, we're going to go ahead and initiate that set-up by pressing the 'start wizard'. The first thing it's going to do is to check the model number and make sure it is valid, and then it is going to ask you to set up a date and time configuration. The first thing is the date configuration, so we can select month/day/year or day/month/year. We can also select 24 hour time clock or 12 hour time clock. We're going to select month/day/year and 12 hour time clock at this point. And press the right arrow button. Then we're going to set up the local time of day in our local region by pressing the up and down arrow buttons around the time to our local time. And then we're going to press the right arrow button on the unit. We're going to set up the date as well. This is an important feature so that when we do set up events, we make sure we have the right time and date for our recorded events in the memory of the unit. So we'll set up the dates by pressing the up and down, and then we'll press the right arrow key on the bottom of the screen. The next thing it's going to do is to auto-detect any accessories that are plugged into the ice machine. So, this ice machine has no accessories plugged into it currently, so the accessories have a little red X on them. Either they're not installed on the machine, or they've been installed incorrectly on the machine. But it's telling you there under accessories installed. So, we're going to press the right arrow button. Next option available on this feature of this machine is that you can import data to it, setting data if you already have it by pressing ''import to ice machine'. And you can use a USB stick to import that data. But we're going to set it up manually on a standard button. So we're going to press the right arrow button, and it's going to ask us for the units. We can set this as metric or standard on this unit. We're going to set ours as standard right now for the United States and then we're going to press the right arrow button. Brightness is another feature that can be adjusted, and this is stand-by screen brightness. So when the unit goes into a power save mode, you can set the brightness of the screen for use by pressing the right and left arrow buttons. And then we're going to press the right arrow button at the bottom. Now, this has a few program mode features that we're going to look at. One of them is 'continuous mode'. We're going to take a look at 'time program'. So, if a unit doesn't have to run on a certain day of the week, you can set it to turn off. So let's just say we don't open on business on Mondays, and we'd like the machine the stay off on Mondays, we can just press 'off' for 24 hours on Monday, or we could set the clock to stay off too on certain times. But we're going to set it back to continuous mode on our unit so that it runs 24 hours every day of the week until it goes off on full bin. So, we're going to set ours on 'continuous mode'. 'Weight program' is another option. You can set it by weight, if you'd like, so you can tell it to make a certain weight per day on each day of those units. We're just going to keep ours on a 'continuous mode' for now, on our ice machine. And then we're going to press the right arrow button. Cleaning reminders are available. You can set a cleaning reminder to clean your ice machine on a certain monthly period. We're going to set ours to clean every 6 months to remind us. And sanitizing, too. We're going to set the sanitizing reminder on for every 6 months, and we're going to press the right arrow key. Air filter on the back of our air-cooled ice machine. We're going to to select a reminder to tell us when to clean our air filter, and we're going to set up the machine as well to tell us to clean the air filter every 1 month on our ice machine. And then we'll press the right arrow button. Yes! We do have a water filter installed on our ice machine, so we're going to press the 'yes' button. And we have an Arctic Pure water filter, so we're going to press 'yes' on that, too. Specifically we have a 10,000 on this system, so we'll press the 'AR 10,000'. And then it tells us that our automatic reminder to replace the filter is set up. So what it actually does is calculate the water that the machine uses, and it will tell you based on that calculation when you should replace the water filter. There is an option if you're not using a Manitowoc water filter that it can do it by just time, as well, and tell you to replace the filter at a certain time that you can set. And then we're going to press the right arrow button. We're going to use factory defaults on our machine, but there are other options of using reverse osmosis, which has the benefit of using less water in your ice machine to make ice. There's also the option to use a little bit more water in your ice machine to make even clearer ice than you normally would. And we're going to set ours back to the normal use factory default water usage on our ice machine and press the right arrow button. And then it tells us that our set-up is complete on this ice machine. And it's going to ask us to switch the ice machine on. So we're going to press the right arrow button. Another feature of this ice machine is once we open the front door, there are 3 buttons behind the front panel: a power button, a lock button, and a clean button. The lock button is used if you're having the ice machine at the front-of-house or in a public area like a hotel lobby, and you don't want people to touch the touchscreen and change the settings. You can put the lock on and the touchscreen will become disabled. The padlock on the top right indicates that it's in lock mode. And we're going to turn the lock back off and press the power button on our ice machine for it to make ice. And the display will show it making ice. The other button on the top right is the clean button to initiate a clean cycle, which we're not going to do right now, so we'll close the front door up on this machine. And you'll see that it says 'making ice' on it.

Hello! Today we're going to talk about how to program this Indigo NXT touch display to take advantage of the time programs. And the way we do this is press the 'menu' button on the left of the display. And then we're going to press 'energy', and then we're going to press 'ice'. And then we can press 'time program'. The reason we would do this is because some regions have different prices for energy at different times of the day. For example, one the west coast, the price of energy is increased from 4 to 7 pm. So as an example, we're going to program this ice machine to stay off from 4 to 7 pm so that it's not running at that peak period when the energy price increases. Of course you could do this another way as well, if it was in a region where energy costs less at a certain time of day, you could program the machine to stay on at that time of day and off at others. So we have it programmed between 4 and 7 pm to switch off. So off at 4 pm and on at 7 pm. And we're going to go back. So we just have this set for Monday, but you can go through each day and program each day the same way for the machine. So if we go back to the main screen by pressing the left arrow or the home button, you can see that it is now in a program mode and making ice, and there is an 'ice now' symbol down there on the bottom right of the screen. So if it was between 4 and 7 pm right now and the ice machine was off and you wanted ice, you could just press the 'ice now' button at that time period.

The Indo NXT's easy touch display has a lock button in the middle of the screen. When you press the lock button a padlock appears on the display screen itself, which disables you being able to touch the screen. If this unit is placed at the front of the house or in a public area and you don't want people to change settings on the touch screen, the lock button will disable use of that touch screen. You see the padlock on the screen in the upper right area, that means the screen is disabled and you won't be able to change any of the settings. To unlock the screen you need to open the front of the unit and swing it open and then press the unlock button and the padlock should disappear. Now the touch screen is unlocked so you can change the settings on it as needed.

We're going to look at the Indigo NXT, some of the buttons on the front of the display of the touch screen. There are 3 main buttons on the bottom of the touchscreen. First one is a menu button on the left. You can press that menu button, and it'll take you to energy settings where you can set different energy settings. If you press the back arrow, we can go back. It'll take you into service, so if you need to see things about service, you can get a lot of information. Press the back button. Settings - if you need to change any of the settings on this ice machine. The setting menu will get you into changing those set-up options. And then reset defaults. If you want to reset this ice machine back to its factory default, this menu will take you in there. So if we go back to the home screen, the middle button gives you information on the ice machine. This gives you very important model and serial number information, so if you're looking for warranty information, this is where you'd find your model and serial number. It also tells you how much ice this ice machine produces, the installation date, and the manufacturing date. It will also gives you a countdown on the warranty days you have left on this ice machine. If you go back to the home screen, the contact information - the little telephone icon right there - the default is you can scan a QR code on our smart phone and it will tell you where the local service company is for this ice machine on this section. Also, you can program in the service company's information, so if you are the service company, you can program your own information in this screen so that instead of showing the QR code, it will show your name and contact information for this ice machine. So going back to the home screen, this ice machine has 3 buttons down at the bottom and the status in the middle of the time and date on top. That's an overview of that touch screen and the Indigo NXT ice machine by Manitowoc. Also on the Indigo NXT easyTouch display is 3 buttons located behind the front panel, which are the power button, the screen lock button, and the clean button.

Hello, and welcome to Manitowoc's service training center, here in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. My name is Jonathan and today we're going to be looking at the preventative maintenance remedial cleaning of the Indigo NXT ice machines. Today, for this example, we're going to use the IYT0450A-161 ice machine, so let's go ahead and get started! Now it's very important you only use Manitowoc-approved cleaners for cleaning ice machines, part #9405463 and Manitowoc ice sanitizer, part #9405653. While performing these procedures, do not mix the cleaner and sanitizer together, as the solutions will cancel each other out. Wear rubber gloves and safety glasses when handling the ice machine cleaner or sanitizer. For more detailed information on these procedures, refer to the installation, operation, and maintenance manual that comes with the ice machine. You can download a copy from our website, www.manitowocice.com. You are responsible for maintaining the ice machine in accordance with the installation, use, and care manual. Maintenance procedures are not covered under normal warranty and they should be performed at least every six months. If the ice machine requires more frequent cleaning and sanitizing, consult a qualified service company to test the water quality and recommend appropriate water treatment. While you may do remedial cleanings more often, deep cleanings should be performed every six months. This involves removing all the food zone components for a thorough deep cleaning and sanitizing. Manitowoc does offer integrated devices such as Luminice® and iAuCS® to help extend the time between deep cleanings. Check our website for those solutions. So, before we get started on today's procedure, we're going to need a few items. We will need some Manitowoc ice machine cleaner, we will need some Manitowoc ice machine sanitizer, some gloves, some safety glasses. External cleaning suggestions: before we clean the inside of the machine, let's look at the outside. Clean the area around the ice machine as often as necessary to maintain cleanliness and efficient operation. Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth rinsed in water to remove dust and dirt from the outside of the machine. If a greasy residue persists, use a damp cloth rinsed in a mild dish soap and water solution. Wipe dry with a clean cloth. Exterior panels have a clear coating that's stain-resistant and easy to clean. Products containing abrasives will damage the coating and scratch the panels. Indigo NXT uses DuraTech aluminum panels that are easy to clean and have a better corrosion resistance than stainless steel. Never use steel wool or abrasive pads for cleaning. Never use chlorinated, citrus-based, or abrasive cleaners on exterior panels and plastic trim pieces. Ice machine cleaner is used to remove lime scale and mineral deposits. Ice machine sanitizer disinfects and removes algae and slime. Step 1: open the front cover and then put the machine into manual harvest. Note: although no requirement and dependent on your installation, removing the ice machine top cover may allow easier access. An alternative to manual harvest is to program the ice machine off, allowing the ice in the bin to be used up or melt. Never use anything to force ice from the evaporator: damage may result. Step 2: press the clean button and follow the prompts. Select "continue" and then press the right arrow. Select "make ice when complete." Water will flow through the water dump valve and down the drain. Wait approximately 1 minute until the water trough refills and the display indicates "add chemical." Add the proper amount of ice machine cleaner or sanitizer to the water trough by pouring between the water curtain and evaporator, then confirm that the chemical was added. Wait until the clean cycle is complete, approximately 24 minutes. This is depending on the incoming water pressure, which affects the length of the rinse and flush cycles. The clean cycle comprises of 10 minutes of washing followed by 6 rinses and flushes. Now you can close and secure the front door. The ice machine will automatically start to make ice after the clean cycle is complete. This takes approximately 24 minutes. And there you have it: the preventative maintenance remedial cleaning is complete and this machine is ready for another 6 months of efficient operation. The clean cycle comprises of 10 minutes of washing followed by 6 rinses and flushes. After complete, disconnect power to the ice machine and dispenser, when used. Step 5: remove parts for cleaning. Single evaporator is being used in this example. Each evaporator will have a distribution tube and a water curtain or damper assembly. Remove the water curtain. Gently flex the curtain in the center to remove it from the right side, slide the left pin out, and remove the curtain from the machine. Next, remove the ice thickness probe. Compress the hinge pin on top of the ice thickness probe, pivot the ice thickness probe to disengage one pin, then the other. The ice thickness probe can be cleaned at this point without complete removal. If complete removal is desired, disconnect the wiring from the control board. Remove the water trough. Depress the tabs on the right and left side of the water trough. Allow the rear of the water trough to drop as you pull it forward. This is to clear the water pump. Remove the water level probe. Pull the probe straight down to disengage. Lower until the wiring connector is visible. Disconnect the connector, and then remove the probe from the machine. Remove the water distribution tube. Note: thumb screws for the distribution tube are retained to prevent loss. Loosen the thumb screws but do not pull thumb screws out of the distribution tube. Loosen the outer screws and pull forward on the tube to release from the slip joint. On larger machines, you will need to disassemble the distribution tube by loosening the two middle thumb screws and dividing the assembly into two pieces. Step 6: Mix a solution of cleaner and lukewarm water. Depending upon the amount of mineral buildup, a larger quantity of solution may be required. Use the ratio of 1 gallon of water to 16 ounces of cleaner to thoroughly clean all parts. Step 7: Use half of the cleaner and water solution to clean all components. The cleaner solution will foam when it contacts the lime scale and mineral deposits. Once the foaming stops, use a soft, bristled nylon brush, sponge, or cloth, but not a hard ward wire brush, to carefully clean the parts. Soak parts for 5 minutes or 15 to 20 minutes for heavily scaled parts, with the exception of the ice thickness probe and the water level probe. Rinse all components with clean water. Step 8: While the components are soaking, use half of the cleaner and water solution to clean all food zone surfaces of the ice machine and bin or dispenser. Use a nylon brush or cloth to thoroughly clean the following ice machine areas: 1. the side walls, 2. the base area above the water trough, 3. evaporator plastic parts, including the top, bottom, and sides, 4. the bin or dispenser, 5. rinse all the areas thoroughly with clean water. If a hose is not available, you can use a bucket of clean water. Step 9: mix a solution containing 2 ounces of sanitizer mixed with 3 gallons of lukewarm water. Step 10: Use half of the sanitizer and water solution to sanitize all removed components. Fill a spray bottle and liberally apply the solution to all surfaces of the removed parts, or soak the removed parts in the sanitizer and water solution. Do not rinse the parts after sanitizing. Do not submerge or soak the ice thickness probe or water level probe in the sanitizer. Step 11: use the other half of the sanitizer and water solution to sanitize all food zone surfaces of the ice machine and bin or dispenser. Use a spray bottle to liberally apply the solution. When sanitizing, pay attention to the following ares: 1. the side walls, 2. the base, the area above the water trough, 3. Evaporator plastic parts, including the top, bottom, and sides, 4. the bin or dispenser. Do not rinse the sanitized areas. Step 12: apply a small amount of food-grade sanitary lubricant on any O rings and replace all components. It's important to wait 20 minutes to allow the sanitizer to disinfect. Step 13: Reapply power. Press the "clean" button. Follow the prompts, select "continue," then press the right arrow. Select "make ice when complete". Water will flow through the water dump valve and down the drain. Wait approximately 1 minute until the water trough refills and the display indicates "add chemical." Add the proper amount of ice machine sanitizer to the water trough by pouring between the water curtain and the evaporator, then confirm the chemical was added. Step 14: Now you can close and secure the front door. The ice machine will automatically start to make ice after the sanitize cycle is complete. This takes approximately 24 minutes. So there you have it: the interior cleaning and sanitizing procedure is complete and you should be ready for another 6 months of efficient operations. Manitowoc: Air Filter Removal & Cleaning Indigo NXT

Hello, and welcome to Manitowoc Ice service training center here in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. My name is Jonathan, and today we're going to be looking at removing and cleaning the air filter on air-cooled Indigo NXT ice machines. We'll also take a look at inspecting and cleaning the condenser coil on this air-cooled IYT0450A-161 that I have for an example today. Please note, these instructions are intended to be used by trained ice machine technicians only. Now remember, disconnect the electrical power to the ice machine at the service switch before cleaning the air filter or the condenser. The condenser fins are sharp; use care when removing or installing the air filter. For a more detailed procedure, refer to the installation, operation, and maintenance manual that comes with the ice machine, or you can download a copy from our website, www.manitowocice.com. You are responsible for maintaining the ice machine in accordance with the installation, use, and care manual. Maintenance procedures are not covered under normal warranty, and they should be performed at least every 6 months. If the ice machine requires more frequent cleaning and sanitizing, consult a qualified service company to test the water quality and recommend appropriate water treatment. While you may do remedial cleanings more often, a deep cleaning should be performed every 6 months. This involves removing all the food zone components for a thorough deep cleaning and sanitizing. Manitowoc does offer integrated devices such as Luminice® and iAuCS® to help extend the time between deep cleanings. Check our website for those solutions. So these are the items that we'll be using today: gloves, safety glasses, screwdriver, flashlight, fin comb, spray bottle, degreaser, compressed air, and some warm water. On self-contained air-cooled ice machines, there is a washable air filter designed to catch dust, dirt, lint, and grease. It's located on the rear of the ice machine. Clean the filter once a month with mild soap and water. A dirty air filter restricts air flow, resulting in excessively high operating temperatures. This reduces ice production and shortens component life. The air filter and baffle have been updated for ease of removal. The air baffle has keyways where the screw heads go through. The air filter is located in a track and held in place by the air baffle on the rear left corner of the machine. In addition, we've added grab tabs to make it easier to remove the air filter. Let's get started! Step 1: turn off the ice machine, disconnect power, and perform a lockout-tagout procedure. Step 2: remove the air baffle by lifting up and disengaging the keyway. Step 3: grab the air filter by one of the tabs and slide out. Step 4: washing the air filter. If it's dirty with lint, take it over to the sink and wash it with warm water. Spray some warm water opposite of the airflow on the filter. If it's dirty with grease, you can use some mild soap on the filter like dishwashing liquid, and then spray the warm water opposite of the airflow again. Put the air filter to the side and allow it to air dry. It's also important to inspect or clean the condenser. If an air filter has not been cleaned on a regular basis or if the equipment is in an excessively dirty location, the condenser may be dirty and restrict airflow. Shine a flashlight through the condenser to check for dirt between the fins. If the condenser is dirty or restricted, the light you shine through the condenser, you may not see much of it coming through. If this is the case, you should go ahead and clean that condenser coil. To clean the condenser coil, we need to first determine if it's dirty with lint, dust, or if it could be grease on the condenser coil. If it's lint or dust, we're going to brush the outside of the condenser with a fin comb or brush, and we can blow compressed air, CO2, or even nitrogen from the inside out, opposite the normal direction of the airflow. Remember, blowing dust out of the condenser may cause the dust to go airborne and contaminate other equipment. Try to even contain the dust by using wet rags or relocate the equipment to a ventilated area. Now, if it's dirty with grease, we're going to want to clean with degreaser and water. Spray degreaser on the surface of the condenser from the outside of the machine, and then use warm water from the inside to rinse the degreaser out of the condensing coil. Allow the condenser to air dry. Remember: ensure that water is not exposed to any electrical components. This process will require the ice in the bin to be discarded, as well as the bin to be cleaned and sanitized afterwards. After the condenser and the air filter are clean and dry, we'll want to reassemble the ice machine. Reapply power, press the on/off button, and start the ice making sequence of operation. Close and secure the door. And there you have it: the air filter removal and condenser cleaning procedure is complete, and you should be ready for another 6 months of operation. Manitowoc: Removal from Service & Winterization Indigo NXT

Hello, and welcome to Manitowoc Ice service training center, here in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. My name is Jonathan, and today we're going to show you how to remove an ice machine from service and winterize it. We're going to look at 2 ice machines today, an IYT0450A air-cooled ice machine and an IYT0450W water-cooled ice machine. The water-cooled ice machine winterization instructions will be a little more in-depth than the air-cooled instructions. Please note, these instructions are intended for use by trained ice machine technicians. For safety, you can find more detailed information in your installation, operation, and maintenance manual that comes with the ice machine, or you can download a copy of this from our website, www.manitowocice.com. The following procedure is for all Indigo NXT models, including water-cooled ice machines. Prior to removing an ice machine from service and winterization, it's important to clean and sanitize the ice machine as discussed in the detailed cleaning and sanitation video, as well as the installation, use, and care manual. After cleaning and sanitizing the ice machine, insure the ice machine is turned off. Turn off the water supply, disconnect the incoming ice-making water line - marked as "in" - and the ice-making drain line - marked as "out" - at the rear of the ice machine. Don't forget about draining the water trough by removing it. The ice machine should still be energized, so navigate to the enable or relay screen in the service menu by pressing "menu", "service", "diagnostics", "control board", and then press "enable all relays". This is to energize and open the water inlet and dump valve. Blow compressed air or dry nitrogen in both incoming water and drain openings at the rear of the ice machine to remove all water from the lines. It's recommended to use 50 PSI air pressure, or nitrogen, and not to exceed 80 PSI. For water-cooled models, you'll need to blow out the water from the condensing coils. Water-cooled condenser models use water to cool the refrigeration system, a tube-in-tube heat transfer. If the ice machine is exposed to below-freezing temperatures with water in the condenser, it could lead to rupturing the refrigeration lines and system contamination. It's very important that you blow compressed air through the condenser until no water remains. Damage to the condenser from freezing temperatures is not covered under warranty. Disconnect the incoming water and drain lines for the water-cooled condenser. Start the ice machine in the ice making mode and wait for the freeze cycle to begin. This will take approximately 3 minutes. The increasing pressure will open the water regulator valve, and you may see water start to come out of the condenser connections. This is a sign that the regulating valve is opening. At this point, take your compressed air or dry nitrogen and start putting pressure through the condenser until no water remains. As soon as all the water has stopped coming out, turn off the machine immediately so that the machine does not trip out on a high pressure situation. Next, disconnect the electrical power and perform a lockout-tagout procedure. Then, replace all the panels. And there you have it: removal from service and winterization procedure is complete. It's almost twice as fast with a lot of process automated, and there's even a countdown timer so I can tell how long until it is finished cleaning. It also alerts me when it's time to change the air or water filter so I don't have to keep track. The easy-read display helps me lower operating costs as well. I can even set it up to maximize ice production during peak periods and produce less when traffic is light, and over time, that saves a lot on my utility bill. In this business, there's just a couple of us here running the store. I need equipment that I can rely on, that's easy to use, and easy to clean. That's why I love my Indigo.

    This ice machine works great and has been running trouble free for about a year. The only minor issue need to have in mind is that it products substantial amount of noise and heat when working, but is within the reasonable range for an ice machine with such large capacity.
