Details

If a traditional exhaust hood is not feasible for your kitchen, this Halifax VHSFN24C ventless countertop hood system is a perfect solution! This self-contained hood lets you make virtually any space suitable for cooking without the ductwork and installation costs associated with normal ventilation, keeping your kitchen air clean and free of grease without requiring as much additional work to your facility. This can make it a great option for leased spaces, food courts, historic buildings, or anywhere a type 1 hood is required, but difficult to install. Its innovative countertop design is rated to provide 750 CFM of exhaust, and it has triple-layer filtration with a stainless steel baffle filter to trap grease particles for disposal, a wire mesh filter to remove smoke and condensation, and a charcoal filter to reduce cooking odors.

This hood system doesn't compromise on safety, either - an interlock feature ensures that the equipment under the hood cannot be operated unless the hood is also turned on, and a color-coded alert system with LED lights lets you know that it is running safely and efficiently. Fire suppression system and chemical are sold separately, but it comes ready for field installation of an Ansul R-102 wet chemical system. Installation must be performed by an Ansul distributor.

The hood frame is made from 18-gauge, polished stainless steel, with a removable equipment tray and side panels that make cleaning a breeze. This countertop system is designed for use with electric cooking equipment only - it cannot be used with gas equipment. It can accommodate 24" of equipment up to 30" deep, with up to 75A total (allow 3A for the hood). Each piece of equipment going under the hood must have a surface area of 480 square inches or less. The cooking surface should be 30" to 34" above the floor, while the counter or table this system is mounted on must be able to support at least 350 lb. Fryers should not exceed an 85 lb. oil capacity. A clearance of 18" is required above the hood body to the ceiling, 12" above the damper, and 30" on the pull station side. The hood must be hardwired, and all connections to equipment must be made by a qualified electrician. It does not come with a cord and plug, but does include a 1/8" wire safety tether.

Customer questions about this product

Can I fry donuts and funnel cakes under this ventless hood?

Ventless hoods cannot be used for frying funnel cakes and donuts due to the sugars creating different types of fumes compared to other types of foods.

How often should I change my Charcoal Filter?

With standard usage, it is recommended to replace the charcoal filters in your ventless Hood system every 90 days. Any usage longer than 90 days can cause damage to the unit. Automatic reordering is available.

I am interested in an “island” type hood in the middle of the kitchen. Where can I order this type of Hood?

Island hoods require a quote from our special orders team. Please email Customer Solutions with any questions.

I am interested in ordering fire suppression with my ventless hood, what is involved in that process?

Fire suppression systems are frequently required by code for type 1 hoods, and need to be designed to fit the specific layout of your cooking line.

Our ventless hoods are available with fire suppression factory-installed, or you can order them ready for fire suppression to be installed by a qualified technician in the field. Units with factory-installed systems use an Ansulex wet chemical fire suppression system to meet UL300 standards for fire protection. The Ansul® tank is shipped empty, and it must be charged and tested by a certified Ansul® distributor before use of the system. The tank is typically mounted on the wall next to the hood.

All nozzles on the integrated Ansul® system have been prepiped and factory-installed to their proper operating position. A manual pull is also preinstalled on the left side of the hood; it requires a 30” clearance on the left side. If this clearance is unavailable on the left side of your hood, please select to have the manual pull installed on the right side of the hood using the dropdowns.

If ordering a fire suppression-ready unit, the pull will not be installed, but a hole for it will be drilled on the side of your choice.

A member of our team will reach out to gather more information about your application so that the fire suppression system can be configured correctly. The sooner you provide answers to these questions, the sooner we can proceed with your order! If our team has any additional questions or concerns based on the information provided, we will work with you to resolve them and find the correct fire suppression solution for your business.

Is a ventless hood the right option for my application?

A ventless hood is a great option for commercial kitchens that do not have the capabilities for traditional vented hoods. However, ventless hoods have a special set of requirements and limitations due to their design. Because ventless hoods work by recirculating air through a system of filters, fresh air supply and ventilation of the room is needed for proper safety and functionality. We recommend consulting your local authority to find out if ventless can work in your kitchen.

Is anything else needed to process my ventless hood order?

Yes! In the Resources & Downloads section we list 3 forms – Receiving Agreement, Order Acknowledgement and Site Survey. These forms are required by the manufacturer to begin processing your order. We encourage you to promptly complete these forms after your order has been placed and email them directly to our Customer Solutions team with your order number in the subject line. A member of our team will also contact you after the hood is ordered to ensure completion of the forms and processing of the order.
