Medium Weight is made of polypropylene plastic and is the lightest, most economical option. It is smaller than heavy weight and extra heavy weight. It flexes easily and may not be an ideal choice for tougher foods.

Heavy Weight comes in either polypropylene or polystyrene plastic and is significantly larger and more rigid than medium weight. Heavy weight polystyrene is more rigid and provides additional sturdiness than polypropylene. Heavy weight polypropylene is break- and shatter-resistant. While more flexible than polystyrene, it has much less flexibility than medium weight options.

Extra Heavy Weight is made of polystyrene and is the same size as heavy weight but noticeably thicker and more rigid still. It can handle tough foods such as meat or frozen ice cream with ease with very little risk of bending or snapping.
