How To Maintain Your Boos Block Wood Cutting Board

How To Maintain Your Boos Block Wood Cutting Board

How to maintain your Boos Block Wood Cutting Board. Your Boos Block cutting board can last you a lifetime. By following these simple care maintenance instructions, you can prolong the life, usage, and preserve the quality of your wood cutting board. Before applying any Boos Block care maintenance products always make sure your cutting board is clean and free of food particles. Wash the cutting board with mild dish soap, rinse with warm water, and let it stand on end to dry. Boos Block Mystery Oil is a food-grade oil that is recommended to be used in conjunction with the Boos Block Board Cream. The Mystery Oil is easily absorbed and penetrates deeply into the grain of the wood surface to help protect and revitalize the fibers from drying, leaching, and cracking. As for the board cream, it seals the wood top surface leaving a silky wax barrier that locks in moisture. A minimum of once a month, apply a coat of Boos Block Mystery Oil to the entire surface of your cutting board. Using a clean cloth or a disposable towel, evenly spread the Mystery Oil across the entire cutting board surface, making sure to oil the bottom and the sides of the board. Allow the Mystery Oil to fully penetrate through the wood fibers overnight then wipe off any excess oil with a clean cloth or a disposable towel. Make sure you check for any visible dry area. If any dry areas are visible, apply an additional thin layer of Mystery Oil across the cutting board surface. After you have properly oiled your cutting board surface, it is recommended to use a Boos Block Board Cream to add an extra layer of protection to seal the wood surface. Apply a layer of the board cream evenly across the surface and let it sit overnight. Wipe off any excess board cream with a clean cloth or a disposable towel. Depending on the use and household condition, be sure to always repeat these steps at least once a month. Our Boos Block Mystery Oil and Board Cream uses all-natural ingredients and is safe for all food preparation surfaces.

My family has had a long association with John Boos products, dating back to my grandfather’s little grocery store in humble Illinois where he used the chopping blocks to cut beef on and pork and different kinds of meats. And now in my current day kitchen, I still continue to use John Boos products for their versatility. And they are not only beautiful to sit out on your counter, but there’s a lot of the chopping blocks that I like to use. We have a large family, a lot of grandkids, have a lot of family dinners that I continue to use them. Commercial kitchens interview. My name is Niall Campbell, executive chef and owner here at Firefly Grill in Illinois. You know, when opening Firefly we started the relationship with Boos we found that we wanted to bring in as much as the community had to offer. The outside of the building is all old barns from the area. And in utilizing that we decided we were going to go with all table tops from Boos just because the wood is so beautiful. But more than anything it’s about the durability, especially on the dining room table. Each table sees hundreds of thousands of people through its lifetime. Those tables need to stand up to the test of time. We always found with the wooden cutting boards that they maintain much better. So when we built Firefly, we decided that we were going to actually use them right in our prep station. So where you’d normally see poly, we have the NSF cutting boards on our lines. It makes for a huge difference. The guys are able to work steady throughout the night cutting, cleaning, and producing straight through the evening.

Boos Block | Supporting Our Environment & Community

Boos Block | Supporting Our Environment & Community

When you’re getting year after year, quality timber from the same area, you’re doing something right. If you’re looking at it and the bottom limbs are starting to die off, that tree is ready to be cut. You manage the timber. You take the trees out that need cut. In turn the little ones, the saplings and the seedlings, trees that are coming up, they just take off. There is always new growth. I respect the wood. I really do. I don’t like to see it wasted, or pushed away. There’s a lot of pride in that stuff. When we start out with a board, we plane it, we’ve ripped it. The scrap goes into the chipper and it is ground into sawdust which blows into the silo. We have a wood burning boiler which in turn generates steam. We use that steam in our glue press, and we use that steam for heating the factory, and we use that steam for drying lumber in our kilns. John Boos & Co., we have done this since I’ve been with the company. I’ve been with the company for 40 years. Nothing goes in the trash can. If we have excess sawdust that we don’t need, we sell it to the local farmers. If they have 300 to 400 head of dairy cattle and they need a lot of bedding, it works out really well. It’s dry. They’re using it for fertilizer and it ends up back on the field. Nothing goes to waste there. It all gets recycled.
