Premium Grade Matcha

Authentic first flush premium grade matcha is made from ground tencha leaves that are hand-plucked off the top of a shade-grown green tea plant during Japan's first harvest, or ichibancha (translating to "first tea"), of the year. The most sought-after harvest, these high-quality, young leaves are the most nutrient-dense leaves, and typically contain 3 times more of the naturally-occurring L-theanine, an amino acid known for improving cognitive performance, than subsequent harvests.

Vitally important to the matcha's taste, quality, and health benefits, the leaves are shade-grown for the last 20 days of their growing cycle to reduce the amount of direct sunlight on the plant. This process limits photosynthesis, thus boosting levels of chlorophyll, antioxidants, and L-theanine. Once harvested, the tencha leaves are then steamed, de-veined, de-stemmed, dried, and stone ground into a powder, slowly, to preserve the tea's delicate yet complex taste.

Easy to Prepare

Each 1 kg bag yields approximately (500) 12 oz. prepared beverages, making it ideal for bulk use. Preparing this matcha requires no expensive equipment, making it easy to integrate onto your menu. To best prepare, combine 2 oz. water with 1 tsp. of sifted matcha in a chawan bowl or round bottom bowl. Using a matcha whisk, rapidly whisk in a M- or W-shaped motion until no clumps remain and you have an even layer of foam on the top. Simply add water, milk, or your favorite plant-based milk alternative and pour over ice if desired. It's great for crafting frappes and signature lattes, smoothie bowls, mixed drinks, or even baked goods!

Quality, Eco-Friendly Brand

After founders Robbie and Steve were tired of the constant crashing from unhealthy energy beverages, Tenzo Tea was created with the mission to offer a clean caffeine beverage for daily consumption that wasn't loaded with sugar and was fairly priced. The two partnered with a 12th generation expert tea master in Japan to make a proprietary blend of ceremonial and organic matcha that tasted delicious with just water. Tenzo's green tea plants are grown in Kagoshima, Japan, on the island of Kyushu. Kyushu's tropical climate and eleven active volcanoes provide a nutrient-rich agricultural landscape and plenty of water and sunlight that is optimal for growing green tea. The company practices eco-friendly growing and harvesting methods to encourage soil and water conservation, reduce pollution, and keep their tea pesticide- and chemical-free. They hand-select only the greenest, most fresh leaves to convert into their delicious matcha green tea powder, and never add any sweeteners, artificial ingredients, or preservatives to keep their matcha pure. Craft healthful, energy-packed beverages with little change to your operation with Tenzo Tea!
