What is the best way to clean and care for my wooden cutting board?
All wood products should be hand washed. The heat and chemicals of a dishwasher are harmful to wood’s naturally porous texture. If your board begins to show signs of wear, its finish can be restored with a food safe mineral oil or wood conditioner. First, clean and dry the board. Then, apply a thin coating with a soft cloth or paper towel. Once the conditioner has soaked into the board, buff off any excess with a clean cloth. I bought this cutting board (in the required pack of 2) based on recommendations from review sites like America's Test Kitchen, but the board is not of the quality I had hoped for: 1. The butcher block measures 16x12, not 17x12, and with wide juice grooves the useable area is only 13x9. 2. Many sections are rough, in need of more sanding. 3. Many wood pieces are discolored gray or black 4. Some wood pieces have black spots 5. Wood pieces are misaligned. This is not a brand that can be ordered online, product unseen. In the future, I would consider Teakhaus only if I bought in person and could inspect for issues before purchase. More likely I would select another brand altogether.
