Buy doughnut fry shortening...you won't regret it. Don't listen to people who tell you to use oils when frying doughnuts. When you fry in oil, the doughnuts absorb much of the oil while frying which makes for heavier and greasier doughnuts. Donut shortening, on the other hand, has much larger molecules which prevents major fat absorption. This causes the donuts to float on the surface of the oil for a prolonged period and shortening has the added benefit of hardening when cool which lends a less greasy after-taste to a donut. A must-have for the donut maker, homemakers included.
