Welcome to video number two. Now, we have the proper surface mount and base established. Now it's time to talk about putting in the proper ADA compliant recess kit. Brett, we have to cut a hole in this fresh, green wall. Yes, exactly. This is the Xlerator recess kit. It is going to allow you to put in an ADA compliant application. It's going to recess your dryer about 3 1/2" to 4" if you're in a tight space. This will actually create more space for your walkway and give you a little better flow for your bathroom. You can put it in yourself, but we highly recommend you need a skilled technician to do this kind of work. This is going to take a more skilled technician than our last application because we are going to be cutting through drywall, or for that matter, solid surface. Okay, let's get started. Let's bring in our professional technician, Chris, once again. Perfect. Here, Chris is measuring the cut-out location for the recess kit. He is marking straight lines at the proper recommended mounting height and having the cut fall between wall studs. Using a reciprocating saw, he carefully cuts out a section of the sheetrock. It may be necessary to use more tools, depending on the wall material. It never hurts to undercut the rectangular section and then open it up slowly while test-fitting the recess kit to ensure a nice fit. A non-live circuit, which has already been wired into the panel is being routed to the recess kit and secured with an electrical connector. With that wire in place, Chris is sliding the recess kit into the cut-out in the wall. It fits nicely in place. It's not too tight that it cracks the sheetrock and not too loose where it falls out of the wall. The cut-out was placed near a stud so it could be screwed to the recess kit for proper support. Now that the recess kit is in place, the hand dryer is being mounted. This is being done by placing the dryer base plate over the six, 1/4", 20 threaded studs. Using a nut driver, the dryer is mounted to the studs with the provided nuts. Again, it's important to have the correct tools as Chris has a nut driver here to mount the base plate. Chris is not finishing the wiring to the dryer. Again, by following the wiring schematic located on the dryer. Here, Chris is measuring the wires, cutting them to the correct length, making sure he doesn't have too much wire once he puts the cover on. The recess kit has a unique hinging door which allows the dryer to tilt forward for easy mounting access of the cover. Two tamper-proof screws are removed to hinge the unit forward and the cover is mounted to the dryer by using two tamper-proof screws. The hinge door is being secured in place with two tamper-proof screws which were removed to originally lower the door. Power is turned on and the Xlerator installed in the recess kit is ready for use.
Properly install a recess kit for your Xlerator hand dryer with these step-by-step instructions! The recess is ADA compliant and will maximize the space in your restroom.
Okay, let's get started. Surface mount video number one. Hopefully you're ready. You've got your checklist, you've got your supplies and tools in place. Let's get started here in the restroom. I've got Brett and Chris, both from RMSe. Chris, our technician. Brett, my goodness gracious, we're not making Chris's job any easier in this kind of environment. Correct. Now we've given him a very small space to work in. We've given him tile walls. The sinks are on top of him. This is about as difficult as it gets. But, if you can do it here, you can do it anywhere. Let's give our viewers at home a birds-eye view. Let's get out of the shot and we're going to let Chris do his thing! All right, Chris is removing the old paper towel dispenser in preparation for the hand dryer install. Yes, he's removing the old mounting hardware so the dryer has a nice, smooth surface to mount to. Here, Chris is marking the specific locations for the mounting holes. He's making sure to use the correct heights as specified by the manufacturer. The heights are located in the instructions. It is extremely important that the dryer meets certain ADA guidelines where applicable. Make sure you also use the correct tools such as a hammer drill as Chris is using here. It's also extremely important that the dryer be level upon installation. It's highly recommended that a trained professional preform this electrical installation. Here, the proper gauge wire is being routed into the electrical panel based on the voltage that the wire is rated for. Xlerator comes in a range of voltages to meet varying electrical services. The wire is being routed to a new, 20 amp breaker. Xlerator can also be installed on 15 amp breakers, which is important when retro-fitting older buildings. Depending on the voltage, the dryer may need to be on a dedicated circuit and appropriate breaker. In this case, the dryer needs a dedicated circuit. One more wire and the Xlerator will be good to go at the other end of the restroom. While the wired circuit is still off in the panel, Chris is bringing the other end down the wall with a snake in the location of the knock-out. on the Xlerator base plate. he is screwing the electrical connector to the base plate and following the electrical schematic sticker located on the hand dryer for wire connections. With the power still off, the cover is installed to the hand dryer using two tamper-proof screws and a wrench which are provided with all units. Lastly, power is installed and the unit is ready for use. Xlerator offers the Xlerator hand dryer wall guard. The wall guard is an anti-microbial shield made specifically to fit underneath your hand dryer. This will protect your walls from water spray that may be blown off of wet hands by Xlerator's powerful air stream. To install the wall guard, clean the wall surface with isopropyl alcohol. This will make sure the surface is dry and free of any dust or debris. Center the wall guard underneath the hand dryer so the top of the wall guard is 1" below the bottom of the dryer. Four strips of double-sided tape are included for reach panel. Apply the tape strips to the textured side of the black or white panel and the smooth side of the brushed, stainless panel as shown. Lay the tape out according to the illustration included in your instructions. Press each tape strip firmly onto the plastic or stainless steel as it is applied. Continue until all four strips are applied. Alignment is critical. Once the wall guard is placed, it can't be repositioned. Align the top edge of the wall guard with the markings on the wall and firmly press into place. If you'd like to, you can even apply a small bead of silicone sealant around the edge. To clean your wall guard, use mild, soapy water and a soft cloth. Mild dish soap mixed with water in a spray bottle works best. Any cleaner that contains ammonia or abrasive cleansers should not be used on the surface.
Mount your Xlerator hand dryer and wall guard using these step-by-step instructions! Once both are in place, your guests can quickly and easily dry their hands. Your wall will even be protected from excess water, soap, and debris.
