How can I calibrate this thermometer using ice water?
To calibrate your thermometer, fill a glass with 3 parts ice and 1 part water. Give it a stir. If your thermometer has a wrench built into the sleeve, insert it into the sleeve now. If it does not, skip this step. Place the thermometer into the ice water with at least a depth of 3 inches. Wait until the thermometer’s reading stops moving.
If your thermometer has a calibration wrench on the sleeve: turn the dial until it reaches 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 1 degree Celsius.
If your thermometer does not have a calibration wrench on the sleeve: use a household wrench to hold the stem in place and turn the dial until it reaches 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 1 degree Celsius.
Your thermometer is now ready to accurately measure the temperature of your food, but be sure to calibrate it regularly to ensure accurate readings.
