How to Pipe a Rose with Buttercream Frosting

How to Pipe a Rose with Buttercream Frosting

Use these simple steps to professionally add a buttercream rose. You'll need a spatula, rose tips, a leaf tip, couplers, a flower nail, a rubber spatula, and piping bags. Begin by squeezing cream onto the flower nail in a circular motion, creating a lump with a tip on it. To create the layers of a rose, squeeze cream in an short arch motion and continue rotating the rose until you have the desired amount of layers, or petals.

Ateco Revolving Metal Cake Stand and Spatulas

Ateco Revolving Metal Cake Stand and Spatulas

Hello, my name is Julie Bashore and I'm the founder of the Sugar Arts Institute. And I'm here today to show you some of the favorite tools that I work with, manufactured by Ateco. The quality of their tools are absolutely awesome. To start off with, this turntable is very, very sturdy. It doesn't move on the table. It doesn't tip if you have a heavy cake on there. And it comes with a non-slip mat, which I like to use because it prevents the cake from slipping off the turntable. You can place your cake on there and work with it and it's not going to move. It turns really easily, I just love this turntable. To cover my cake with frosting, I'm going to be working with the Ateco short spatula. They are stainless steel spatulas. This one is a little bit wider so that you can collect your buttercream on the top of it and very evenly spread this around the cake. It holds the buttercream well. It's nice and wide so it doesn't fall off the cake. Once I have my buttercream placed on the cake, in order to smooth it out, I'm going to be working with my bench scraper. But before I go onto that, I'm going to show you a spatula that is also stainless steel. This is ideal for people who are tall. I'm rather short, so I prefer the short spatula, but this one, if you're tall, it really works well. And in addition, helps smooth the top of the cakes. The bench scraper is my preference for smoothing the buttercream around the side. It has a nice strong handle and I can actually grip it with my fingers, which helps me balance it. Holding it on the side here, at a 45 degree angle, I turn the turntable around and by working with the bench scraper I can actually see where I'm going with the buttercream. So spread it around, the turntable is turning nice and smoothly. And I'm going to remove all the excess buttercream and place it back into the bowl. And then for the top, you can use this tall spatula. But actually, again my preference is to work an off-set spatula. What I like about this one, it is great because it has some depth here, so I don't get my knuckles into the cake. And I can actually use this to smooth the edges of the cake. This way, my knuckles are kept a distance from the cake, so that I'm not scraping them into the buttercream. It's very comfortable to handle, it's not heavy at all. It has a little bit of give to it, which makes it a little easier to spread. Then once I'm done with that, I'm going to go back to my bench scraper and neaten off those edges. With this, you don't really need to move your arms at all. You just keep the bench scraper at a 45 degree angle. And then go back with the spatula and clean off your edges. And there you go; my cake is almost ready to have the fondant placed on top. Awesome tools!

I absolutely love this Ateco Icing Spatula. The offset icing spatula makes for perfect tool for icing large sheet cakes with an even professional finish.
Just started our very own bakery department. I had her make me a list of all the items she needed and did not have to look any farther.
This item (we have a few, actually) is indispensable in our bakery. It's great for spreading fillings out smoothly on some of our rolled-out products (like babka and cinnamon rolls), and it doubles as a useful tool for loosening the sides of some of our stickier quick breads and muffins from the sides of the pans.
I use this on all of my bakery style cakes. It applies icing to the sides of the cake smoothly and pain free. A must have item!
This is a well made 7" offset spatula. While I do prefer my one from Ateco with the wooden handle, that's just an aesthetic choice
We ordered this medium spatula for our cinnamon rolls and king cake to be able to spread filling as quickly as possible. Sturdy and exactly what we needed.
Perfect for icing cakes and other baking needs. Feels sturdy. Blade has a nice flex to it and bends with moderate amounts of pressure but is not flimsy
This spatula is stiff enough for frosting but flexible enough to loosen a cheese cake from the bottom of a spring form pan without scratching the pan. Dishwasher safe for easy clean ups.
Good spatula for great price.Arrived earlier and staying helpful .I ordered it from this brand for first time just to try and now will order different sizes.
This Ateco spatula is perfect for cake icing and is even big enough to move smaller cake layers around. It seems durable but does show some signs of scratching on the metal.
This medium size tapered offset baking spatula is great I used these daily in my bakery. These are hard to find locally but I was happy to find it here. Good quality and price!
My to go medium size tapered spatula, for bakin goods, creams and cake decorating. Easy to use and clean, plastic handle is good and the size is just the one you need.
First time using an offset or icing spatula. I went for Ateco as it is trusted by professionals (no, I'm not one!). An essential companion for turntable from Ateco (check out models 612 and 615). The sides are rather smooth, which is good as some generic brands out there have rough edges. The spatula is neither wobbly nor sturdy. It is in an intriguing sweet spot of flexibility. I had a doubt between going for this (7 3/4") or the longer one at 9 3/4", and I went for the 7 3/4", as I think the longer one will be a bit awkward to manipulate and not as responsive, so to speak. Picture: The engraving on the back of the spatula says "stainless steel Japan", and that's a plus for me (anything but one location in particular). The handle is a bit dull, as it's not like rivets and exposed full tang, but for occasional use, I am very satisfied and would not pay more for good looks. We get good function here.
This offset spatula is great for frosting cakes, particularly for the crumb coat because it is large enough to cover the top of many of our cakes. It is well made and not too flexible.
Great for frosting cakes, spreading batters, ect. The reason I'm giving only 4 starts is because they aren't super sturdy, and are a bit flimsy for thick buttercreams and frosting!
The Ateco offset ice spatula works well for frosting a cake. I am just starting out with decorating but with this spatula it seems possible. Very good quality and price.
great for decorating cakes/ cupcakes. as well it is very good quality and it is also good for the price. can always count of webstaurantstore for great quality
We use to only buy offset spatulas from another known brand, but Ateco has more than impressed me. High quality and stand up well to every day use. Awesome price!
I love using this spatula for frosting my cakes. It is perfect for crumb coating cakes because the size is large enough to cover lots of surface area and it is also flexible.
This is by far my favorite cake spatula! Do not get another one, this is the one to get! It is not flimsy, tough, And you do not need another one
