That's John. John owns a business and is looking for an energy-saving heating system for his building. He has heard that infrared heating systems are exactly the right thing for him, but how do they work, and why are they so efficient? Infrared heating uses the principle of the sun - as simple as that. The sun radiates infrared radiation, which reaches the earth with virtually no losses and heats it up. The best way to demonstrate this is if you were in the mountains on a glacier. When it's 23 degrees Fahrenheit or -5 degrees Celsius and cloudy, you feel cold. But as soon as the sun comes out, it immediately feels like a nice day at 59 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 degrees Celsius. You can lie on the glacier and it still feels warm. That's exactly the way it works in John's building, and that brings many advantages. First, infrared systems primarily heat up humans and objects - not the air. That's great, because hot air rises. It'd be a waste of energy to heat up the air. Second, infrared heat feels comfortable and takes effect. The air temperature may still be cool, yet we feel comfortably warm - just like in our glacier example. These are the reasons why infrared heating systems use up to 40% less energy. That reduces operating costs - money that John can use for other things. But, there is a third advantage. Due to the fact that infrared heating doesn't blow air around, it doesn't swirl up dust. That's good for John, because his facility remains clean. And, it's also healthy. Because there are high-intensity and tube heaters, John now asks himself, which kind of infrared heating is right for him. Both have the same effect, but work differently. With high-intensity heaters, the combustion takes place on ceramic tiles, which then radiate the infrared energy, and because this is highly efficient, high-intensity heaters can heat up to 180 feet high. With tube heaters, combustion takes place in a tube. The tube then emits the radiation. Tube heaters work at lower temperatures and can heat up to 35 feet high. John thinks that's all great. For more advice, he contacts Schwank. They are the market leader and America's number 1 manufacturer. If someone knows how it's done, then they do. Schwank explains to John what heating is most suitable for his facility and at the same time, they calculate how much energy John will save in the future. Schwank - innovative heating solutions.

My name is Eric Hammersand and I own a Dry Dock Waterfront Grill on Longboat Key. We're an upscale, casual restaurant. Outdoor dining is extremely popular here in Florida, particularly in the Manasota area. We have approximately 40 seats on our outdoor patio, and what we found with the Schwank heaters is we're able to utilize all of our tables on a more frequent basis with our heaters. Average ticket price is $20 per person. We typically seat the tables 3 or 4 times for both lunch and dinner, so the ability to have that kind of revenue that we otherwise would not have without the heaters is very important to us. We've found the aesthetics of the Schwank heaters to be extremely good. We get a lot of guests comments about the appearance of them, the fact that they're located from the ceiling area. We did get them done in stainless steel because we are out on the water. They've held up very well. Prior to using the Schwank heaters, we had mushroom heaters located on our outdoor patio. The problems we experienced with those was not heating as effective heating the tables. It would typically heat one side of the table. The other issue we had was to have guests navigate - and our servers try to navigate - around the bases of the heaters. So, the Schwank heaters took away both of those negatives by mounting them from the ceiling. The heat coming down is much more effective. Guests are much more comfortable with that system. Plus, the fact that we have a lot more room between the tables because it's not being taken up by a mushroom stand-up heater. When I would work before with the old heaters, I was always bumping into them and now I can just walk around the dining room much more conveniently than when the heaters were on the floor like they used to be. I love the new heaters. It allows me to carry trays and maneuver around the dining room, and it also allows me to wear shorts in 30 degree weather. The customers love the heaters. Whenever I have tables tell me that they're cold, I just run upstairs, flip on the switch, and it gets warm in seconds. Hi, I'm Laurie, and I've lived in Florida for 15 years. I'm from Cleveland originally. I've been to this restaurant since it opened, and I have to say that this is the most comfortable heater that I've ever had outside. This is definitely the coldest day that I've been here, and I have to say the heater is appropriate for the weather today, for sure. I'm very comfortable. It gets chilly here at night often in the winter, and Floridians get cold easily, so this is a wonderful, wonderful thing. So, the way we control the heaters here - we have a control box up here, we have a number with each heater, that way they work... it's a number 1 and a number 2. The way we control it is we just press the number 1 and that's just for low. If they want it warmer, hotter, we just turn it on to number 2. That's it; that's all it takes. The 2-stage capability of the Schwank heater was one of the selling features compared to other brands that we looked at. Having the ability to go from both a low and a high heat is important to us. All guests are somewhat different, so some like a lower heat, some like a higher heat. We've had them for going on 2 years and have had absolutely no problems with them. I would definitely recommend Schwank heaters, having the experience of having the stand-up mushroom heaters on the patio versus the Schwank heaters... no comparison. Perfect - that's great, Eric. Okay? Good. Awesome. Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Yep. We'll, it's all true, so I don't have to make anything up. I"ll give this to you. Thanks.

Good morning! Welcome to NRA 2014. My name is Jim McLellan with Schwank. Schwank is the world leader and innovator gas-fired, infrared heating. Outdoor heating has become very popular - originally from new smoking bylaws in the US, but overtime, people want to spend more time outdoors. And they want comfortable outdoor environments. These types of products are what started the industry and they were a very common, inexpensive way to heat the outdoors. With the invention of technologies like the Schwank heaters behind me, the industry has really taken off and created a complete outdoor environment. Permanent mount solutions like this are a lot safer. Restauranters can now extend their patio season. This is very important, because that means more revenue. The longer that chair is filled in season and on the shoulder months brings new revenue to that restauranter. Schwank's newest gas unit is our new Bistro Series heaters. These heaters are available in different sizes for different comforts for different clients. Our newest product is this great stainless steel unit that's great for coastal reasons where we have corrosive salt air, and it's a two-stage unit, so we can turn up the heat when we need more heat or turn down the heat when we need less heat. At the flip of a switch. Another solution is electric, infrared heating, including nesters. In this case, we can both heat the patio when it cools off, and during the hot daytime temperatures we can cool the patio. A lot of restaurants need cool as well as a heated environment. Areas like Arizona, Nevada, the southern and western US, require both types of comfort. One of the things a restauranter wants to know is what he's going to get out of an investment for comfort for his outdoor patio. Schwank has created a simple design tool that will assist them by putting in some simple metrics like the square footage of their patio, but here's a quick example to show you the kind of return on investment and how quickly a patio can pay for itself by investing in outdoor patio heaters. As we move down to the bottom in this particular example, you can see that we have potentially created an additional $56,000 of net revenue. He has an estimated install cost of $30,000 and in 33.75 days he's paid for that heating system that he gets to use year after year after year after year. Schwank provides solutions for some of the largest franchises in the United States. People like Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, Twin Peaks keep the patios full - keep the revenue streams going.
