Compared to the 3M alternative, for us at least, it works the exact same. We mainly use these when sanding off the bottom of boats, which can be very harmful if one isn't protected. These coveralls do not protect us from 100% of the dust particles but this is something that we know and the reason we favor these over the Micro-porous is because these are much more breathable and good in times of heat. This product has worked exceptionally well for us. Here at work we use these coveralls when sanding off bottom paint from boats and yachts. These coveralls protect us from the immense amounts of dust we confront and keeps away 100% of it. We do not like these in times of heat though, since it doesn't breath well. If you work outside, only look to get these in times that are cool or cold.
