To use the self-watering feature on this planter, simply drill a 1/4" hole in the side of the planter, and fill the reservoir until water flows out. Then, add your lightweight filler, potting mix, and plants. The hole will maintain the right amount of water to keep the roots moist. After several weeks of regular watering, the plants will be able to pull moisture themselves, but occasional watering is still needed. Alternatively, you can use this planter for potted plants. Drill a small hole in the removable tray and flip it upside down to create a platform. Then, insert your potted plant.
