Customer questions about this product
- Is this wooden-handled utensil dishwasher safe?
- Utensils with wooden handles are not dishwasher safe; exposure to hot water can cause the wood to warp or splinter. These items should be hand washed and dried thoroughly. For optimal results, use a wood conditioner periodically to prolong the life of the wood.
- Why are the bristles falling out of my brush?
- To increase the longevity of your brush, we do not recommend using this brush in high heat applications. Although the bristles are set with a very strong epoxy, high temperatures can cause the epoxy to soften, resulting in loose bristles which may easily fall out.
- Will this item look exactly like the one that's pictured?
- This item is either made of wood or designed to mimic the look of natural wood. Because of the natural differences in wood, no two items will look exactly the same. Each item is designed from, or to look like, the same type of wood, but each will have its own unique appearance and wood-grain.
This beautiful wooden handled, 2" wide flat pastry / basting brush with boar bristles can be used for coating fluffy fresh baked pastries with butter, egg wash, or water. It is made with soft, flagged white boar bristles, molded into its base to prevent bacteria. The double-boiled, bleached, and sterilized premium boar bristles can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, while the gleaming lacquered hardwood handle and brown nylon ferrules give your kitchen a professional and high quality feeling. It's no surprise that this brush is the choice of top chefs, as its bristles are epoxy-set in ferrules to provide superior bristle retention and fine pastry washes. You can use it again and again, because the durable, water resistant boar bristles for basting meats and pastries are snugly secure and built to last. It features a 6" wooden handle and 2" brush width.

We didn't love this pastry brush. The bristles started to fall out almost immediately, and were contaminating the food that we were making so we tossed it.

Thank you for the review! We’re sorry this is not working for what you need it for. We suggest trying this Carlisle Sparta 4040305 2" Silicone Pastry Brush instead.

This pastry brush looked like it might work well until I actually used it. An initial pulling on the bristles lightly did not cause any to come out but with the first washing several came out. I would not buy it again.

This brush is in great quality. The bristle is very gentle. I used it to coat my breads, and it is very gentle that it will not hurt the soft shell of the breads.

This 2 inch bristle pastry brush has served its purpose. The bristles stay together which is important for a restaurant. They clean rather easily as well.
Ryan M. from We're Rolling Pretzel Co. Posted on 11/01/2017
Good brush for sauces or applying oils and butters to bread. They're pretty tough to I run mine through are industrial dishwasher for a good six months before the Bristol start to go. Good value

The bristles hold up pretty good, and we use the brush for egg washes, and butter basting. We hand wash it and let it air dry so it won't get moldy

Brandon from The Bookery Cafe Posted on 08/25/2017
Unfortunately the bristles in this brush are not properly secured. It leaves bad brush strokes and bristles on my pastries. I threw it away after a few tries, I will be investing in a higher quality product.

So far, so good. Been using this thing for a month now and seems to be holding up fine. Pretty good for a cheap brush.

I use this for egg wash and butter brushing to get a nice even sheen on homemade pate chaud and cream puffs. However, I like to use the silicone brushes when I need to just slather on a lot butter. I also hand wash these and let them air dry.

I pretty much exclusively use pastry brushes for wet applications so i prefer boar bristle over plastic versions. this brush is really nice and it works out great for me for egg washes and brushing butter on biscuits.

I'm extremely happy with this purchase! The bristles are firm yet soft on anything it touches. It holds plenty of liquid so you don't have to revisit your dipping bowl as often. Because it is natural bristle, I would clean it as soon as it is used so as to not cause it to clump or build mold.

This is a great little brush for cleaning up crumbs and other debris from cakes. I have some larger ones, but these are great when I just want to do a littquick clean up.
Melanie B. from The Sweetest Things, LLC Posted on 05/02/2017
This is my go to brush for egg wash. The width of the brush allows you to cover a lot of surface area in a short amount of time. Also great for topping meatloaf or even buttering bread.

I bought this 2" boar bristle pastry brush because it has a plastic ring holding the bristle instead of a metal one. My old metal one would rust when washing it.
Jerry B. Posted on 03/13/2017
I have both the 1.5 inch and the 2 inch brushes and they have been great to me so far. It has been a couple of months of use and they are holding up well. I use one for sweet type things and one for savory type things, so the flavors do not mix. It helps if you dry them hanging from the eye (I use an S hook) or lying flat on its side so that the moisture drips downwards instead of deep into the head of the brush bristles. I have seen minimal bristle loss using these brushes compared to others I have used in the past.

Great pastry brush, use it for buttering many baked goods, and to glaze over sauces on steaks and fish, cleans up nice, and no metal parts for rusting.
David H. Posted on 01/27/2017
Great brush, but it was too big for my everyday use. The hair is intact and soft. I primary use it for brushing flour off the dough.
Mina C. Posted on 12/27/2016
These brushes are great until they aren't. They start losing their bristles after a while, usually without warning. You won't know until you start finding them in the food.
Michael K. from Rise Bakery Posted on 12/17/2016
This product meets my business needs. It is of good quality and at a great price. It's works perfectly for brushing off small pieces of equipment (i.e. crumbs on panini grill, coffee grinds off grinder)
