How to Season Your Pans

Pan seasoning is essential for keeping your pans performing their best in your kitchen. This instructional video will show you the proper steps to seasoning your cooking pans based on their material.

How to Season a Pan

Seasoning your pans enables you to cook great-tasting food with minimal oil, butter, or fat. It also provides a stick-resistant surface, allowing for easy clean up, and will keep your pans from rusting quickly. Check out this video to learn how to season cast iron and carbon steel pans.

Today we're going to show you how to season cooking pans. Pan seasoning is essential to any food service operation, as it keeps your pans from rusting and your food from sticking to the pans. Seasoning cooking pans saves you time and money. We'll show you how to season five different types of cooking pans in this video. A cast iron skillet, a carbon steel fry pan, a carbon steel wok, a tin-plated pan, and a hard coat aluminum pan.

For a carbon steel pan, start by washing, rinsing, and drying the pan. Heat the pan on your range on medium to high heat, then add shortening to the pan. Use a clean dry towel to spread the shortening around the interior of the pan, creating an even coat. Remove the pan from the heat, wipe out the excess shortening and let it cool. You can repeat this process up to 3 more times. For a cast iron skillet, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and set aside. Wash, rinse, and dry your skillet. Place the skillet in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove and coat the entire skillet with shortening, inside and out. Place the skillet in the oven for 45 minutes with the baking pan on a rack below it to catch any mess. You can repeat this process up to three more times.

These 13" wide rim pizza trays work great on our pizza buffet. We use them to put 11" pizzas on them and have a spare 1" rim around them.
These are a perfect fit with my Avantco snack oven. Easy to clean and sanitize. Weight and size are great for our little pizza festivals.
I was very impressed with this thirteen inch aluminum pizza tray with rim and the Webstaurant reputation continues to impress me. I also use this to showcase our house cakes and other pastries. Very stylish. I would recommend.
The rimmin this pan makes it less likely that a pizza will slip off, causing undo waste. This thirteen inch pan is great for a medium size pie.
Great for the price, but they scratch easily. After a couple years of use, they start looking bad enough to replace even if you scrub them daily. However, at this cost, you don't feel bad about replacing them.
We've had a bunch of these for several years, bought right on this site, and have never had to replace. Outstanding quality and built to last. Would easily recommend and will be re-ordering more soon.
Great value and they hold up well. We do frozen pizzas and they are easy to cut on the trays. Pizza cutter does leave marks across the tray but who really cares what it looks like? It's easy to clean, and works well.
These pans are perfect for our dining room. We serve our pizza on them and they have been durable and great for our purpose! Highly recommended!
These aluminum pizza trays are just as good as more expensive pizza trays we had purchased elsewhere in the past. We see no reason to go with a pricier pizza tray...this gets the job done!
These pans work great for warming something up quick in the oven and to use for serving. They wash up easy and are very light.
These aluminum pizza trays are just as sturdy and attractive as more expensive pizza trays we had purchased elsewhere in the past. We see no reason to go with a pricier pizza tray...this gets the job done!
I have bought only the heavyweight pans before. I bought a few of these for our display unit and realized that the heavyweight pan for the oven is the only way.
A standard pizza pan that has held up well for almost a year. Just ordered more to keep more pizza in rotation. Keep in mind this pan has a lipped lid so if you are cutting a larger pizza you might want to buy a flat pan vs. one with a rim.
In the way you present the pizza at YOURS customers eyes, it will be your signature, so this tray makes part of OURS ! !
