At first, I doubted these plates were stainless steel because a magnet didn't stick to them at all. My father-in-law is 100% convinced that these cannot be aluminum because a stack of five+ plates feels too heavy to be aluminum. I agree. It would be nice if the type of stainless was printed on the back of the plate: i.e., "authentic stainless steel." I love the thought that I can use these plates for the rest of my life and hand them down to my kids without them ever getting chips on the edges like my stoneware and other plates.
