You can easily step your cake baking up by using this cake leveler from Wilton. I've used it on 6" smash cakes and 8" cakes. Watching cake tutorials and hearing bakers claim they use buttercream to level their cake is disappointing when I try and do the same and my decorated cake turns out lopsided. I've also tried leveling a cake using a knife as easy as it sounds, it won't come out as perfect as when you use the leveler.
