While this mixer is capable of making great shakes, it has proved to be very unreliable, finicky, and frustrating for us. The pulse button on one side broke within two weeks of use. On the other side, the latching switch to allow for hands-free mixing broke a week later. Two completely independent failures from less than a month of normal use. This mixer also loves to make big messes. I'll cut it some slack because we use very thick ice cream, and it probably is less disaster-prone with soft serve, but it clearly promotes the use of both soft- and hard-serve ice cream (even including mixing tips specifically for hard-serve). If you are not extremely careful, using the pulse button (very important that this doesn't break) to break up the ice cream, it will sling milk, ice cream, and anything else in the mixing cup everywhere. It certainly cannot be trusted to mix unattended. Worst of all, Waring does not offer refunds. They did send us a replacement, but I fully expect future issues. I would not recommend this mixer or anything else by Waring.
