Not the best seal. It's a thick sturdy plastic yet flexible. It won't break under the weight of another container on top of it or from the pressure of opening and closing over ave over again.

These container lids are not bad but they're not the best. We've had them for 4 years and they crack and tear much more easily than the 2 and 4 quart lids do for some reason. We use them daily but they don't get a lot of heavy duty use so I'm not sure why they are cracking but either way, they are good quality for what you pay for and they make the containers be able to be stacked easily on top of one another in the cooler for easy storage. I'll buy them again but keep an eye on how we use them to see if I can figure out why they're cracking and tearing while the other ones of the same brand are not.

These are made of Polypropylene so they are BPA free. They work great on the 2 and 4qt containers and as a bonus, the lids stack when you store them separately in a closet. Make sure you get polypropylene containers as well (instead of polycarbonate which is not BPA-free) to match these.
