The Timberland story began in 1952 when its founder, Nathan Swartz, purchased a half-interest in what was then known as the Abington Shoe Company. Swartz started as an apprentice after immigrating to the United States, and through his diligence, he bought out his partner and brought his sons into the business with him. Under their supervision, the Abington Shoe Company moved to Newmarket, New Hampshire, a region beloved for its diverse outdoor beauty, providing the perfect backdrop for the development of high-performing footwear. Timberland products are designed for longevity and produced with sustainable materials. In 1973, they invented their renowned waterproof boots, the "Timberland." These boots set a new standard for waterproof performance and became synonymous with the company. So, in 1978, they changed their name to Timberland and set to work producing more high-performing footwear options.
