Founded in Portland, Oregon in 1994 by Steven Smith, Tazo Tea began making and distributing tea to the United States and Canada. Smith created Tazo tea products with the goal of bringing tea alive through a story and a name. He decided on the name Tazo because that is how the people of Easter Island are said to have excitedly greeted each other in the 5th century.
