T&S Brass Pre-Rinse Units: Repairs and Replacements

T&S Brass Pre-Rinse Units: Repairs and Replacements

Today we'll walk through the various steps involved in repairing and replacing the hose and spray valve on a pre-rinse unit. To complete these tasks you'll need the following tools seen here. First we'll take a closer look at replacing the hose. Before we begin be sure the handles are church turned off and no water is coming to spray valve. Unlike with other replacements it is not necessary to shut off the water supply. Begin by sliding the spring to reveal the hose assembly, use a wrench to loosen the nut from the spring body, and remove the assembly. Once separated from the riser remove the hose from the spring. Next remove the spray valve from the handle by twisting off using a wrench to loosen initially, if needed. Set the hold down ring aside. Then reinstall the hole down ring over the new hoses handle, before screwing the spray valve back into place. Once complete feed the new hose back through the spring. Reinstall the hose by tightening the nut to the spring body. Place the spring back over the spring body and return the hose to its original position. Be sure to turn on the water and check for potential leak points specifically around the spring body and the spray valve. To reduce stress on the pre-rinse unit hose consider adding a spray valve swivel. Before you begin, be sure the handles are turned off and no water is coming to the spray valve. Loosen the handle assembly from the hose being careful not to scratch the hose barrel. Next remove the old washer and add one of the replacement washers and install the new swivel on the hose barrel using a 5/16" Allen wrench. Once complete add the other replacement washer as shown. Finally reinstall the new handled by connecting to the new swivel and tightening together. Be sure to turn on the water and check for potential leak points around the new swivel. Now we'll demonstrate how to replace both the B-0107 and the B-0108 spray valve. Before changing this spray valve be sure the handles are turned off and no one water is coming to this spray keep in mind that the B-0108 series requires removing the and assembly which comes stock while with the of B-0107 series, the handle remains in place. Begin by removing the existing spray valve and washer using an adjustable wrench as shown. Then add the replacement washer and screw on the new spray valve tightening in place. Be sure to turn on the water and check for potential leak points around the new spray valve. Before replacing this spray face be sure the handles are turned off and no water is coming to the spray valve. Remove the existing spray face using a Phillips screw screwdriver. Replace the spray face in the rubber bumper then reinstall and fasten into the spray valve using a Phillips screwdriver. Be sure to not to tighten this screw in order to prevent cracks and leaks in the spray face. Be sure to turn on the water and check for potential leak points around the new spray face.

T&S Troubleshooting Leaks

T&S Troubleshooting Leaks

When a faucet or pre-rinse unit begins leaking, it immediately goes from a wonderful, convenient apparatus to a headache. Because it often seems difficult to diagnose, leaky plumbing can go for months or even years without being repaired. Meanwhile, water bills can silently rise and rise. The reality is, that many end users, and even some plumbers, don't know the true cost of a leaky faucet. According to the EPA, a faucet that leaks at the rate of 1 drip per second can add an extra 3,000 gallons per year to a water bill. 3,000 gallons, that's enough to fill 3 firetrucks. The good news? Leaks are actually simple to diagnose and just as manageable to fix. The first thing to understand is why leaks occur. It's not usually because the metal itself has developed a hole or perforation. Usually, the problem is much simpler than that. Leaks almost always occur due to wear and tear on soft warn parts, such as a gasket, washer, packing, or O-ring. These parts allow the faucet or pre-rinse unit to function smoothly, and in order to do that, they have to compress or give a little each time the unit is used. Let's take a look at the most common leaks and what you can do to repair them. On a faucet, you may notice a leak on the spout itself. The solution here, you may need to replace a seal between the outlet tip and nozzle. Or, the leak may be back at the cartridge spindle itself, where a worn seat washer is letting water into the spout. Is there a leak around a faucet handle? You'll need to replace the worn packing inside by removing the bonnet nut and replacing the old packing with new packing. Leaking at the base of the bonnet means the top gasket is worn and needs to be replaced. Leaking at the nozzle base while the water is running tells you that the swivel o-ring has worn and your faucet is ready for a new o-ring. Leaks at the coupling flange are due to an old gasket. Replacing that will solve your problem. On a pre-rinse unit, leaks may be even more obvious. A leaking hose is one that is punctured or perforated and needs to be replaced. A leak around the spray face means you need a new rubber bumper. A leak through the spray face itself means its time to replace the bonnet assembly. But, the other common leaks are nearly identical to those on a faucet. If there is a leak at the base of the handle, you'll need to replace the washer inside the handle to stop the leak. A leak at the top of the handle means a hose washer that needs replacing. Leaks around the pre-rinse faucet or riser itself will inevitably be identical to the faucet leaks described previously. Leaky plumbing, no one likes it. But it's not difficult to investigate and repair. T&S makes it easy to keep your faucets and pre-rinse units performing at their best.

Customer questions about this product

How is the pre-rinse hose length measured?
Unless otherwise specified, the quoted hose length includes any grips or connectors at the end of the hose, so the actual working length of the hose may be slightly less than described. Please refer to the product's specsheet for more detailed dimensions.
Can I get a spray valve with a higher flow rate (GPM)?
A: The maximum flow rate for all commercial pre-rinse spray valves produced after January 28, 2019 is 1.28 GPM – more specific regulations may apply based on the valve’s spray force in ounce-force (ozf).

Product Class 1 (5 ozf or less) – Max Flow Rate: 1 GPM
Product Class 2 (5.01 - 8 ozf) – Max Flow Rate: 1.2 GPM
Product Class 3 (over 8 ozf) – Max Flow Rate: 1.28 GPM

These regulations do not impact spray valves made before January 28, 2019, and are implemented by the US Department of Energy in an effort to improve energy conservation.
