This Spike+ Trio 20 gallon brew system from Spike Brewing makes brewing top-notch beers faster and easier, whether you're looking to hone your craft, or a brewery that wants to test out new recipes on a smaller scale before committing to large-scale production. The turn-key Trio system takes you from grains, water, and hops, to brewing done and fermentation started in as few as 4 hours, while also addressing many common brew day issues!
At the heart of the system are the 3 brew kettles, the hot liquor tank (HLT), mash tun (MT), and boil kettle (BK). Made from type 304 18/8 stainless steel, the kettles are engineered to deliver superior performance and longevity thanks to smart features like sanitary, welded fittings that won't fail over time like weldless designs. 1.2 mm thick walls provide maximum temperature retention and durability, and threadless tri-clamp fittings make your system easier to connect and easier to clean than threaded designs. Additionally, the kettles feature a stepped bottom design, which creates a built-in shelf for the false bottom in the MT, resulting in 99.9% grain filtering efficiency with no gasket needed to keep the seal. In the BK, this feature also lets the hops collect in a lower "dead zone" area, which keeps your wort clear as it transfers to the fermenter. A 304 stainless steel HERMS coil in the HLT is used to bring your strike water up to the desired temperature quickly and evenly, before circulating it back into the MT for mash-in. The 20 gallon kettle size allows this system to brew batches between 6 - 15 gallons.
The system features (2) 5500W heating elements, which provide even, consistent control when heating the water in the HLT, and when boiling in the BK. The heating element in the BK can be turned on as soon as enough of the wort has been transferred over to submerge it, so by the time sparging is finished, the BK will be at a full boil, cutting down on total brew time. Instead of the complex valve tree common on many systems, a simple electrical panel lets you manage the pumps independently, and turn on either the BK or HLT element to the desired power level.
Additionally, it comes with an innovative steam condenser lid that transforms the resulting steam into liquid and removes it from the kettle, preventing mold growth on your walls and ceiling while also producing hot water that can be later used for cleaning. By removing the steam, this simple accessory also removes the need for a costly exhaust hood, which saves you on installation and run costs, and gives you the flexibility to place the system in whatever location makes the most sense.
When your boil is done, simply chill your wort to pitching temperature (a wort chiller is not included on this system) and transfer to the fermenter. Cleaning the system out couldn't be easier, either - using the hot water left over in the HLT and your preferred brewery wash, you can simply recirculate your cleaning mixture back through the hoses, pumps, and kettles using the same process you used to brew your beer. Scrub away stubborn deposits, drain the cleaning mix, rinse with hot water, and sanitize. You're all done!
It comes with everything needed to get set up and brewing, including 2 food-grade pumps with stainless steel heads, and FDA-approved, food-grade silicone tubing and quick-connect fittings. To help you save money and reduce energy consumption, the system boasts up to 85% efficiency and uses just $5 or less of energy per brew. Additionally, it requires just one 240V electrical connection to power the whole system, where many comparable systems require up to 5 outlets. A power cord and plug are included.
