- How can I properly care for cast iron surfaces?
- In order to prevent unwanted build-up of oils, grease, and food, surfaces should be cleaned after use while still slightly warm. Harsh chemicals or scouring pads should not be used—only hot water and a cloth or sponge are needed. If some areas require extra cleaning, a mild scouring pad can be used. Please refer to our Pan Seasoning Guide for further information on properly cleaning and seasoning cast iron surfaces.
- My new cast iron feels rough in some areas. Is this normal?
- Yes. This is a result of the sand casting process. With use and replenishment of the seasoning, the pan will become smoother. Unlike other types of cookware, Lodge Cast Iron only gets better with use. For concerns about roughness, it is OK to use a fine grade of sandpaper to smooth out the rough areas. Make sure to re-season the item before using.
- How is Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware seasoned?
- All of Lodge's pre-seasoned cookware is seasoned with soy-based vegetable oil. No peanut oil or animal fat is used.
- Does this cast iron pan weigh more than other similar sized pans?
- Yes, this cast iron pan is heavier than other similar sized cast iron pans due to the additional material used to make the impressions.

What can I say? It’s a cast-iron pan! And it’s a lodge. So you’d expect it to be good. I’ve always wanted one with the grill lines, and at Webstaurant store’s price, I couldn’t resist it.
The grill pan is a quality product. It is heavy duty, made in the USA, and works well. I especially enjoy the pre-seasoned aspect, which saves time.
I was looking for a good solid cast iron pan with the grill grooves on the bottom for my kitchen and this fit the bill wonderfully. The ridges help my meats to come off more cleanly and provide those awesome grill marks without needing to fire up the outside grill. It's a good, solid piece and should last for many years with proper care and maintenance.
Great brand and the price is right on this cast iron pan. When you don't want to fire up the grill you can still get grill lines on all your favorite foods with this.
Very good try grilled chicken in first time, I will post some picture liter. The grill marks are perfect, no more grill on the fire.

We all like the restaurant look of grill marks on your meats and vegetables. This grill pan is also great for rendering fat from your meats without leaving them to sit in a puddle of grease. Once your done, simply rinse it hot water and oil. If you have stuck-on food, toss in a tablespoon of salt and scrub with a paper towel. Then rinse, dry, oil, and store away.
