A healthy food, these clams are a great addition to soups, stews, and casseroles. Mix them with hearty potatoes and rich cream in classic clam chowder, or steam them with seasoning and serve them with butter for a fan favorite. You can even serve them raw on the half shell for a fresh, nautical treat.
These live clams should be cooked within 48 hours of shipping. Live, uncooked clams can be stored in a refrigerator for up to two days, but must be kept in an open container and covered with a clean, damp cloth. Do not store live clams on ice or keep them in a sealed container. They must be able to breathe in order to remain healthy. A live and healthy clam will have its shell tightly closed. Clams with cracked or opens shells are damaged or dead and should not be cooked or consumed. Cooked clams can be refrigerated up to 72 hours at 41 degrees Fahrenheit. To steam clams, pour a few inches of water with a sprinkle of salt into the bottom of a pot and place the live clams on a steamer rack. Cook the clams for about eight to ten minutes until the water begins to boil or until the clams have opened. However you choose to prepare and serve them, these clams are incredibly versatile and pack a ton of flavor inside their little shells that is sure to keep your patrons coming back for more.
