Not practical as a salt cellar. The design causes moisture to build up inside with the salt, clumping and wetting it. The first time this happened, I dumped out the wet salt, cleaned and dried all pieces including the silicone seal, and refilled with fresh salt. Within a week the interior had gone wet and clumpy again. While it's possible damp fingers contributed to the moisture, I've used other cellars before with no issue. Clearly the sealed design of this particular cellar is part of the problem. It does not allow the salt to naturally dry out. The container is a nice color with a big open mouth, so I will likely use it to hold something else in my kitchen.
