i am able to grip the handle well be cause it is slightly textured. Also the indentation at the base of the blade helps with gripping. The plastic handle makes it easy to clean.

I know it's common for these to be used for icing large cakes. I use them differently as I make ice cream cakes. Just dip them in hot water and scrape across the top of the mold while it's full of product, and it creates a nice, smooth top. It does take some getting used to if you've never made an ice cream cake, but it's definitely worth it to have one this large.
