The mix of large and extra large crabs between 6" and 7" are packed with flavor, and a bushel includes around 5 dozen crabs, which is the perfect quantity to feed a large group of people. A general rule of thumb is to have 8 to 12 crabs per person if you are only serving crabs, or 6 crabs per person if you plan to serve other food.

To prepare these crabs, fill the base of a large pot with equal parts water, vinegar, and beer, if desired. Place a rack just above water level for the crabs to steam on, and layer the crabs on the rack.
