American Metalcraft SCG8 Stainless Steel Hand Held Rotary Cheese Grater

definitely feel this is more for home-use than for commercial use. while it does a pretty good job grating the cheese, it only does so for a fairly narrow range of sizes of pieces of cheese, and since it leaves a small piece ungrated, every time it has to be re-loaded there is a bit more waste. that's fine at home, where you can eat the tasty chunk left over with a sip of wine, but no good for controlling food costs in a restaurant kitchen. also, the hand you hold the grater with ends up getting in the way of the crank handle coming around, so using it for more than a few minutes on a given night is an exercise in frustration. I'd give it another star -- or maybe even two -- if it this were a home kitchen website, but for preofessional use it just doesn't cut it for me.

I bought this grater to grate mostly hard cheeses like parmesan & romano for my Italian dishes. It works smoothly seems to be well made. It finely grates the cheese and I can throw all the pieces into the dishwasher for clean up. I’d buy this again!

This grater works well. It is not very comfortable in the hand and I would not recommend for commercial use. The blade is sharp though and it gets the job done.

Grates parmesan cheese very well and cleans up in the dishwasher. Does a nice job on grating garlic cloves too. Have not owned it very long so no idea on longevity but seems well made. Plastic ones do not last at all so I am hoping this will continue to do its job for a very long time.

Flawed design. Used maybe 5 times, there are already teeth marks on the plunger. The plastic bushing strips must be removed for sanitary cleaning. It does not appear that these are meant to be removed. Not recommended for those averse to cheese residue and steel particle contamination.

bit disappointed with this actually: i used similar type graters in the past with no issues, including one that was almost exactly the same as this one. it does the job, it grates, but the grater piece doesn't seem to sit correctly on the holder handle piece so as you grate you feel like you have to forcefully keep the whole thing together so it doesn't come apart. also in general it feel a bit flimsy in some spots. all in all its ok: it does the job but it doesn't do it great. I would probably go with a different one next time.

The grater is clunky, it took three trys to the crank to fit into the handle and then it doesn't stay together. I'm a catering chef and I asked my wife to assemble the grater and after the second try she said, "This is no fun". It is not easily usable but appears to be sturdy but I returned.

A little weird to put back together, but cleans really easily. The plastic ones eventually crack and are harder to rinse clean. Can be switched for righty’s and lefty's.

This stainless steel handheld cheese grater is heavy duty. We use it pretty regularly and it's still going strong after having it for at least a year. We will buy, if the one we have ever breaks.

We previously used the plastic one of this and found the metal was easier to use and clean. Ours gets a lot, a lot of use so I had to buy another one in case the current one breaks but 4 years of heavy use and it’s still holding up well.

This handy little hand held grater is perfect for shredding fresh cheese over pastas, salads, etc. It is also terrific for zesting. The stainless steel design makes this gadget sturdy, to withstand multiple uses.

Works OK, but badly executed. The handle press is too far from the grater and a large chunk of cheese does not get grated. The strength of the metal over the plastic unit is worth the higher price, but I wish it was designed better. I have a similar galvanized unit that I inherited from my maternal grandmother that is so much better, except for the galvanized steel instead of stainless. So maybe my expectations regarding this greater were too high. But I do not see why modern design and manufacturing methods cannot at least match a similar product from 70 years ago.

This grater is cute, well made, and works well. After using it, I prefer a hand grater for simplicity in the kitchen. But it would be fun to have it at the table for dinner guests to use.

Very simple and effective tool for grating hard cheese. We use it regularly for parmesan and similar cheeses. Can make more of a powder using light pressure, or can make longer ribbons using more pressure which melts nicely on hot food. Washes in dishwasher just fine, no signs of rust or discoloration. Sturdy construction.

This is a sleek look for cheese grating in front of guests. Easy to use / turn the handle on hard cheeses. There tends to be a little waste as mentioned in other reviews but probably immaterial. It is also a little difficult to wash.
