The Mortar and pestle are very solid and well made. They feel good and solid in the hand and have the weight needed to grind. I also like that they are dishwasher safe. It is a bit more slippery than a stone one, but that's just the nature of stainless steel.

After using mortars of all kinds of materials, from natural stone to ceramic to granite to wood, this mortar and pestle set if the absolute best I've tried. OK maybe second to the ancient mortar I used while in cook school in Thailand, but that is just another level and unobtainable.

This mortar is perfect to make my own guacamole salsa. I like that the pestle is long enough for me to get a good grip

I wanted a stainless mortar and pestle set that was easy to clean, dishwasher safe, and durable. I got that ... but unfortunately this one has problems: After washing, any water that sits in it causes rust (I thought stainless was rust-resistant?) This is especially a problem with the seam between the base and the mortar bowl. The best solution is drying it by hand, making sure to get every last bit of moisture out of that seam. That's more trouble than I'd like. The rubber ring is also a nuisance to wash ... do you leave it on in the dishwasher, and risk having it go AWOL? And even if you remove it and wash it by hand, how do you get every last bit of moisture out of it, so it doesn't form a rust ring on the mortar's base when you put it back on? Also, as others have mentioned, the stainless doesn't offer a rough surface to grind on. So I'm now going back to marble.

Thank you for your review, Peter. We are sorry that you did not prefer this product. Stainless steel can still rust, although certain types are more resistant to corrosion.
