I wanted a stainless mortar and pestle set that was easy to clean, dishwasher safe, and durable. I got that ... but unfortunately this one has problems: After washing, any water that sits in it causes rust (I thought stainless was rust-resistant?) This is especially a problem with the seam between the base and the mortar bowl. The best solution is drying it by hand, making sure to get every last bit of moisture out of that seam. That's more trouble than I'd like. The rubber ring is also a nuisance to wash ... do you leave it on in the dishwasher, and risk having it go AWOL? And even if you remove it and wash it by hand, how do you get every last bit of moisture out of it, so it doesn't form a rust ring on the mortar's base when you put it back on? Also, as others have mentioned, the stainless doesn't offer a rough surface to grind on. So I'm now going back to marble.
