Reviews for Choice 16 oz. Pint Regular Mouth Glass Canning / Mason Jar with Silver Metal Lid and Band - 12/Case

I will not be ordering these again for several reasons. 1. The quality of the casting is not great. 2. Several jars were chipped on the lid lips and one had a crack in the threads. I looked very carefully in the jar and the packaging and couldn't find any shards. These issues don't appear to be an issue with shipping but from manufacture. 3. Almost all the jars had moisture in them and smelled musty. 4. The lids don't inspire confidence and don't seem to be readily interchangeable with other manufacture lids. I did like the jar was simple in design which lacked decoration and branding. I also liked that it was available.

First off, these lids and bands DO NOT fit other wide mouth jars, nor do Kerr or Ball lids and bands fit these. Next, all of these buckled under the same process during canning, while the Kerr and Ball in the same batch under the same process came out fine. What a waste of time and product these will be for you. Such a disappointment as most products I've gotten from Webstaurant to date have been great. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE!!

I appreciate that this order arrived intact and with no breakage. The use of the product itself is not a great standard, and I wouldn't recommend it. If you're using this to hold flowers, great. If you're using it for canning, look elsewhere. I've had this set for a year and I have fewer jars than I've started with. The glass is somewhat thinner and I imagine this compromised the shelf life for durability. (I've had some crack in the refrigerator.) Also, the lids are specific to the brand, they will NOT fit Ball jars. It would be worth your money to skip this brand unless you're desperate for some single-use jars.

Reluctantly decided to try and ordered the Choice brand of jars as the popular brand was out of stock. We do alot of preserves and need quality glass and no fail lids-as not all lids are equal. We learned that all lids are not equal the hard way. I am biased and preferred the popular canning jar and lids, and was surprised and pleased the Choice brand matched the performance of the popular canning jar! Also the jars were well packaged and not one was damaged. Am ordering again.

Upon receiving these jars, the first thing I noticed is that there is zero packing material. That being said, about 2-3 jars in each case are chipped or cracked. Also just visual inspection of the non damaged ones shows the many imperfections these jars have. I absolutely will not use these to can anything. The likelihood of them breaking/exploading in my canner is too high and the cost of the products are too high to risk it. I’m not even in a position to return them because I would have to pay $ for the return shipping plus the 30% restock fee. This is on a $ order. It’s not worth the gas to take it to the fedex location to ship it back. This is by far the worst experience shopping for products for my business I’ve ever had. Will not be buying anything from WebstaurantStore ever again and I will tell everyone that asks to steer clear.

Simply the best deal there is for bulk mason jars. I'll never buy from anywhere else.

I bought last year and was not happy with the fact that the lids do not hold a seal well but chalked it up as a loss and possibly a bad batch of lids. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, ordered again because apparently Ball (my go to brand) has discontinued the smooth sided jars according to WebstaurantStore, and ordered about 50 cases (3 sizes) of these jars. Once again, bad seal! Out of 3 dozen jars, I lost seal on 3 pints and 2 half pints! I have a small jam/jelly business so this is NOT good! Now I have ordered enough Ball lids and rings to fit the jars I just bought so I’m out even more money to ensure that my customers don’t get spoiled food. Sad! I will say however, that customer service was great when I called about 2 cases missing a jar in each as well as a case being shattered when arrived.

Do not buy these jars they are cheap, broken and poorly packaged.

I’m a jam/jelly/fruit sauce/fruit butter maker. I average 20-24 dozen jars yearly. I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I’m SO glad I did. Here is my comparison of Ball/Kerr to Choice jars: Ball half pint jar - Weight 180g - Glass 4mm thick Choice half pint jar - Weight 182g - Glass 4mm thick Filled a room temp jar with water at 165 degrees - no breakage from temperature change. Simmered jar filled with water for 15 minutes (water bath). Jar didn’t break, and lid sealed securely as it cooled. Lids and rings for both brands fit both jars.

These jars crack very easily- I've never had a Ball or Kerr jar crack the way these do when canning.

Honest review (wide mouth only)-- Not bashing Choice Brand in any way. Just a true comparison.... I have used these on several occasions, and they are not bad at all, but they are NOT Ball or Kerr standards. That being said, please note the rings from Choice are not compatible with Kerr jars (haven't tried with Ball yet), but the lids seem to work with any jar. I have a few more jars that don't seal or lids that buckle, then usually seal, with Choice than with Kerr. But with the price of Ball or Kerr right now, it's still the best deal, even with a few mishaps.

The product itself is fine. Kinda hard to mess up a glass jar. But the shipping/handling was absolutely ridiculous. I ordered 25 cases (lots of jelly to be made). First, $ for shipping? Really? For that price, they should be encased in bubble wrap and handled like the delicate glass they are. Nope. None of the shipping boxes were marked FRAGILE or GLASS. They were overpacked without any filler material, so the individual cases tumbled around in the box. When I talked to customer service when replacing the cases that arrived broken, I specifically asked to have the boxes marked FRAGILE/GLASS. This did not happen. Whoever you have packing your boxes for shipping needs to be fired. There is no excuse for a business like this to not have the appropriate level of handling for their items. I don't plan on purchasing from this company again.

I love these jars and use them for my canning business. The issue I have is that they've changed the packaging on shipments. I never had a broken jar this spring. Now, when I order cases, I have 1-3 broken jars in at least half the cases. The packaging provides to protection to them. It's frustrating.

The jars are a savings vs and are smooth to fit our product label. They work well

These glass jars are built well and durable. The lids seal well and do not leak. They are priced at a fair price and served me well. I would purchase them again.

3 out of 12 jars delivered broken. The glass is shipped without any protective materials just shipped bulk in a box without any packing paper or bubble wrap. The shipper should consider shipping these with better protective packaging. It is a hassle to have to pick through all the broken glass and have to clean all the broken glass off of the good jars.

These jars have been a lifesaver for our business! We had always had to rely on whatever brand that was both affordable and available, but about a couple years ago when all the supply-chain disruptions began, we were still able to buy bulk quantities of these jars at very reasonable prices. As far as the quality, if you've gone through the tens of thousands of jars that we do, the different brands are all very similar. If we allow the jars to cool naturally & undisturbed for at least 24 hours after the canning process, we never have any issues with them. Additionally, besides being very affordable, the company packages their jars very well and always ship very quickly.

Honestly, I only bought these because they were so very cheap... and I really want to like these because the wide-mouth is more popular with my customers, and the price was pretty darn good before, but with the recent price increase, I'm not sure I will buy these again....because the QC at the factory is bad. Like really bad. First of all, the lids are very poorly matched to the jars. Sometimes they will just pop off spontaneously after I thought they were screwed on right. Sometimes you have to try lid after lid to find one that will fit and stay on. Not only are the lids not uniform, neither are the jars. My go to for mason jars! They are sturdy and came in perfect condition. Love the lids, easy to seal.

Jars break, do not buy!

We have been purchasing products from Webstaurant for 2 or 3 years. I have encurred loss on defective product that I am told nothing can be done about it. I have also encurred loss of my customer product due to the products not holding up to the canning process. I am highly disappointed with the policies or acknowledgement of the fact that we have encurred financial loss. We will no longer be ordering from Webstaurant. The prices are lower than many competitors, however in this case, you get what you paid for.

I love the smooth sided tapered half-pint jars for canning as my labels fit well and the product is attractively displayed without distortion due to the clear, smooth glass. What I don't like is that many of the jars from a recent order have been poorly made with extra shards of glass on the rim, misshapen jars, broken threads, and so many have not sealed properly, resulting in reprocessing or discarding batches. I have to carefully inspect each jar and lid prior to use and hope for the best that the lids will seal after processing. It seems the amount of rubber on the lids is thinner than in the past as well.

Product was exactly what we needed for our product. Price and shipping is great. We will be ordering more soon.

Jars don’t have proper tolerance, lids/rings won’t seal.

I like that the jars have smooth sides. If you are not using them for actual canning purposes, I'm sure they work very well. Of the first case I opened, two of the jars were chipped and unusable. Two did not seal properly and two more cracked in the canner. You get what you pay for.

These jars are not only separated by cardboard for shipping, they are also shrink wrapped, so all arrived intact. There are no marking on the sides like a Ball jar or Mason jar, so they are nice for vases or candle holders.

This jar matches one I have used for years that was sold by Walmart. No branding imprints to interfere with labeling the jar, which is a plus for me. The Choice jar is slightly shorter than the Ball jar. The Ball weights 9.5 ounce, the Choice 8.55 ounce. This is not a concern since mason jars have gotten thinner over the last 50 years because the industry has gotten better at making stronger jars with less material. They both measure out the exact same liquid content, slightly over a pint. (as any canner knows, to get an actual pint, quart, etc. in a canning jar does not allow for headspace) Overall, I am pleased with this jar. Furthermore, I have never had a problem with products I have gotten from Webstaurant store. Choice, selection and price are outstanding.

These are more affordable than buying the brand everyone knows, but you definitely get what you pay for. These are much more delicate and even break when lightly dropped into a sink full of sanitizer.

Very nice and durable jar

I currently use these for my kiddie extreme shakes. They are the perfect serving size for our littlest guests. They always come intact as well. I have never received any broken ones.

These jars work really great, I love that they have a wide mouth, it makes them really easy to fill so no need for a funnel. ????. When I received them, a few were broken, customer service was fantastic and reimbursed the price for each broken.

These 8 ounce jars are great for my small kimchi that I make and sell. The smooth sides are great, they have a nice seal and are well packaged to prevent breakage during shipping. Highly recommend as the price is good too.

My small homebased business made/sold over 10,000 jars of jam last year, and I keep coming back for these jars. They are good quality, cost effective, have good a seal rate, and the smooth sides are great for labels. The flat sides don't have the lumps and bumps that other brands have, which make your labels look sloppy and difficult to remove when recycling.

I ordered cases of these last last year and in almost every box there were broken or chipped jars. The rest of them are full of air bubbles, oval instead of round, or have multiple seams. I wouldn't trust them with the heat of a water bath, let alone a pressure canner. Thankfully customer service worked with me towards an acceptable resolution, but I wouldn't recommend these at all. Oh, and the lids/rings are garbage. They start to rust as soon as you get them wet. I tried to use them for other jars.

The glass jars themselves are great, but the lids and bands are terrible. The lids do not seal. And the bands are next to impossible to get on and off. I’ve been canning jam for quite a while, I have a jam business. I bought these jars and made a large batch. I had to re-process the entire batch because about a third of the jars did not seal properly.
