After settling in Texas from Louisiana, Dave was inspired by the freshly picked jalapeno peppers available in the area and made a fresh sauce combining jalapeno, onion, and ripe, smoothly blended tomato to make what would later become known as the world's first picante sauce. After realizing the demand for the product, Dave began the Pace Foods brand and made relationships with local farmers to secure fresh ingredients year round.
