Details

Keep your pantry stocked with high-quality, flavorful ingredients like these dried ancho chile peppers! Ancho chiles are made from ripe, red poblano chile peppers, which are carefully dehydrated. Ancho means "wide" in Spanish, a reference to the shape of these peppers; these flat peppers feature a wide stem that gently tapers to a point at the tip. Compared to other varieties of chile peppers, ancho chiles are mildly spicy, registering just 1,000-2,000 Scoville heat units (jalapeno peppers typically register 3,500-8,000 units). They feature a distinctly smoky flavor with floral notes and a subtle earthiness. This bulk supply of 5 lb. of dried ancho chile peppers will keep your establishment well stocked with this flavorful ingredient!

These ancho chiles are a versatile option to keep on hand in your kitchen. Use them to add smoky, fruity flavor and mild heat to a wide variety of recipes! If a milder flavor is desired, you can remove the stems and seeds of these peppers before use, as these are their spiciest parts. Try rehydrating these ancho chiles by soaking them in hot water for about 30 minutes. Rehydrated chiles can be added to sauces like mole or pureed into a paste to make tamale or enchilada sauce. Make your own house-made chili powder by combining these ancho chiles with other dried peppers of your choice and grinding them to a fine powder. You can also briefly toast the dried chiles in a low oven or a dry skillet to enhance their complex flavor! Add toasted chiles to sauces and braising liquid for meats. You can also combine toasted anchos with other varieties of chiles like guajillo chile or chile de arbol and blend them in a food processor with tomatoes, onion, garlic, achiote, orange juice, cumin, oregano, salt, and oil to create adobo rojo de chiles, a marinade used for popular dishes like tacos al pastor! No matter how you choose to use them, these ancho chiles will infuse your signature dishes with delicious flavor. Store them in a dry, dark area to preserve their quality.

We are a bulk food store and one of our customers wanted to make Birria and couldn't find the chiles locally. The chiles are a bright, rich red and smell like they pack a punch. The bag came in tact, but sadly wasn't labeled. Since we ordered a few varieties of chile in this shipment- a label would have been great.
