Details

Add fresh new flavors to your menu with ingredients like these fresh aloe vera leaves! Aloe vera is a spiky succulent plant with thick, fleshy green leaves that are tipped with small spines. Cut into an aloe leaf to reveal a translucent gel interior that's renowned for its culinary and medicinal uses. Aloe vera gel has very little flavor, though it does have a slight vegetal, "green" taste. The gel is loaded with antioxidants and is also a great source of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as calcium and magnesium, making it a wholesome addition to your menu. This bulk supply of 25 lb. of aloe vera leaves will keep your establishment well stocked with this specialty ingredient!

Before incorporating aloe into your recipes, you must first process the leaves to safely remove the gel. Begin by slicing off the base of the leaves, then run your knife down the sides of the leaves to remove the spiky, serrated edges. Aloe leaves are rich in latex - submerge your trimmed aloe leaves in water to help leach the latex out. When the water turns a cloudy yellow color, switch it out with fresh water, repeating until the water remains clear. Slide a knife between the aloe gel and the skin of the leaves, removing the skin and leaving the aloe gel behind. Finally, rinse the gel to remove any residual slime. Now that your aloe is prepared, you can use it in a wide variety of recipes! Simply blend the gel on its own to create aloe juice, adding cane sugar or fruit juice to cut the vegetal flavor of the aloe. It also makes a healthy and hydrating addition to smoothies! Cube your aloe gel and use it as a topping for fruit salads, puddings, or trendy acai bowls. No matter how you choose to use them, these aloe vera leaves will help set your establishment apart from the competition!
