People Talk About:caramel sauce flavor cream Great Monin Ghirardelli ice Torani coffee

I wanted a caramel sauce (not syrup) for drizzling on my lattes. I decided to try all 3 brands that, at the time of my order, were available from WebstaurantStore in a 'home-kitchen-friendly' size: Ghirardelli, Monin, and Torani. The differences seem subtle --- and possibly could vary between manufacturing batches, or with product freshness, or maybe even depend on the condition of my taste buds at the particular time I tasted them. Nevertheless, my goal was to determine which brand I liked best, so that I don't have to stop and think about it every time I place an order :-) Here are my notes, in case this is helpful to others: PRICE I was surprised to discover that all 3 squeeze-bottles were basically the same size. I expected the Monin bottle to be much smaller, as it was listed as 12oz. compared to the others' 16 and 16.5 oz -- but apparently the Monin is measured by volume rather than weight. So, for all intents and purposes, the prices can be compared bottle-to-bottle rather than having to figure out a per-ounce cost. At the time I purchased them (early August, 2016) the Ghirardelli was the least expensive, edging the Torani by about 10%. Monin runs about 30% higher than the others. However, ALL these products cost considerably less through WebstaurantStore than through other channels, and price is probably my least concern. FLAVOR All 3 are very good. Ghirardelli seemed the most elegant (delicate and silky) but does not provide as much up-front flavor as the others, so it was not my favorite choice for lattes. I believe it would be lovely on ice cream. Monin and Torani were both good, the Torani seeming perhaps a bit deeper in flavor. TEXTURE If I were looking for a flavoring sauce that melts into the coffee, I would choose Monin or Ghirardelli. The Torani is a bit thicker and doesn't dissolve quite so quickly. On the other hand, Torani would probably work best for drizzling the inside of a clear glass for decorative effect. While the Monin sauce seems a bit thinner/drippier than the other two, all 3 brands are smooth-flowing, and are the right consistency to linger on top of latte foam *IF* you can control the drizzle. Unfortunately, Monin's lid-on-the-bottom style container requires more pressure at the start, which causes the sauce to jet right through the foam into the liquid coffee. While this container design is handy for dispensing down to the last bit of sauce, its uncontrollable squirt makes it less suitable for my purposes. INGREDIENTS Ghirardelli: Corn Syrup, Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Nonfat Milk, Heavy Cream, Salt, Pectin, Natural Flavor, Disodium Phosphate. Monin: Sugar, Water, Nonfat Dry Milk, Corn Syrup, Milk Fat, Fructose, Natural Flavors, Modified Food Starch, Caramel Color, Salt, Mono & Diglycerides, Disodium Phosphate, Potassium Sorbate (preservative), and Citric Acid. Torani: Corn Syrup, Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Heavy Cream, Water, Butter, Nonfat Milk, Natural Flavor, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Mono & Diglycerides, Sodium Bicarbonate. NUTRITIONALS Monin lists 24 servings per container, while the others list 12 servings -- so in order to get an accurate comparison, the numbers listed on the Monin nutrition facts panel need to be doubled. After doubling, the nutritional facts are pretty similar for all products. There are slight differences; however, I know personally from working in the food packaging design industry, that the nutritional panel numbers are commonly rounded up and down... so it's really hard to compare products using the numbers. Bottom line.... these are syrups, and like all sugar-based foods, are NOT healthy. A few calories or percentage points doesn't make one brand a better choice over another! ? Conclusion: Although the Monin sauce is probably my favorite with regard to taste, I have settled on the Torani for my lattes. The Torani bottle's conical tip provides good control for drizzling, and the flavor & texture is prominent enough to persist in the cup. Persistence is important to me because I use no other flavor or sweetener in my lattes. Having said ALL THAT (!) the differences are subtle, and I rate all 3 of these sauces highly. They are all delicious, the perfect finishing touch to a homemade latte, or delectable drizzle over a decadent dessert!

It's a much deeper flavor than the syrupy stuff kids mix into glasses of milk. But a thinner consistency than what comes out of a jar labeled "ice cream topping". Great caramel flavor, and a texture that sits perfectly on whipped cream (even the kind out of a can). I drizzled some on a brownie last night and was in heaven!

When it comes to caramel based drinks, look no further. We believe we have found the finest caramel sauce/topping to incorporate in our menu. So delicious. You won't be dissapointed.

Love this stuff, but it has a shorter shelf life than others. It is thick and rich, and we'll probably switch back to it (hopefully in the large bottles) once we get more established here.

As always this products name speaks for itself, always consistent, tastes great and people love this stuff! We use several different flavors in the Ghiradelli family, never disappointed!

I purchased this for home and use it when making lattes and other espresso beverages. It also works great as an ice cream topping. I love how easily it squeezes out and the flavor is excellent.

This caramel sauce is delicious, another great product from Ghiradelli. It's rich with a perfect balance of salty and sweet. I mostly use it to top ice cream.

Ghirardelli makes a fantastic Caramel flavoring sauce that comes out easily and coats the substrate. Most of our customers use this to make Caramel Frappes as well as drizzle over dessert dishes.

Ghirardelli is the best and this caramel sauce is another example of their quality products. I tried this as a filling and drizzle for my chocolate salted caramel cupcakes and it was just as good as if I had made my own caramel sauce.

This caramel sauce is great in coffee to make a flavored drink, drizzled on a plate with fruit or as an addition to your favorite dessert, ice cream or brownie.

Ghiradelli is a well known brand in the industry. this caramel flavoring sauce is pretty delicious. it is great to have for flavoring coffee drinks or even drizzling on dessert.
Travis F. from Sweet Pea's Cupcakery Cafe Posted on 02/12/2017
This has true caramel flavor. It was simply delicious. Consistency is slightly thinner than the Torani caramel syrup, but flavor was on par. Not just pure sugar, it actually tasted like caramel too. The only complaint is the nozzle. It has one of those rubber tips whereby you have to squeeze a certain amount on the bottle to get the syrup to pour out, so it can glob out unexpectedly initially until you get the flow going.

Great flavor for pre-packaged caramel sauce. We use this for coffee and espresso drinks. Decent price based on purchasing locally. We will purchase this again.
Julie L. from Whisk Bakery and Coffee Shop Posted on 01/04/2017
Magnificent!! There are no cons with this sauce. Good on ice cream, on whipped cream for drink toppers or just straight up in the drink itself and then give it a good stir, absolutely fabulous!
Sheila H. from sheila hardy designs Posted on 12/27/2016
This Carmel is really good. They used to use it in Starbucks, but besides that, it is really great tasting and tastes great on ice cream.
David H. Posted on 12/22/2016
The Ghirardelli Sauces are of a very good quality and Webstaurant has some of the best prices. Our customers love the consistency and flavor of all the sauces.
Jennifer B. from The Bean Tap Posted on 12/05/2016
This is a tasty product. The texture and consistency are also very good. It is a sauce so it's much more versatile than those very thing syrups.

This caramel sauce is everything! It serves amazingly as a drizzle for my peanut butter bananas foster style cupcake. It tastes amazing and looks amazing. I can't wait to see how else I can incorporate this into other flavors
Abby from Rose Market Goods Posted on 10/20/2016
We are still awaiting our shipment of the smaller, 16 oz. Caramel sauce. However, we ordered the 64oz. also and have to say it is some of the best, quality caramel sauce that we have tasted! We will most likely use the smaller bottle for drizzles, etc and the bigger bottle for drink mixing!
Anna M. from Dream Thread LLC Posted on 08/22/2016

True to form, I love Ghirardelli sauces. This caramel flavor does not disappoint. I use it mainly for flavoring my coffee and hot chocolate drinks, but it goes really well with dessert pastries and ice cream. Definitely recommend!
