Start by using the base to cut the foil on the top of the bottle, and remove the foil. Then position the corkscrew above the bottle and hold it as vertically as possible, holding it at an angle will not remove the cork properly. Once the corkscrew is in position, press firmly on the cork and press the top bottom. After that it is completely self-activating.
